Jakarta, 22 November 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar attended the Inauguration and National Working Meeting of Karang Taruna’s 2025–2030 National Board. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene emphasized that youth are the main pillars in developing Indonesia’s creative economy.

“The creative economy is not only about growth but also sustainable and responsible practices, such as upcycling and zero-waste, which can be initiated by young people across various subsectors, including fashion and crafts,” said Deputy Minister Irene on Saturday, 22 November 2025.
The event, held at Mall Alam Sutera, Banten, carried the theme “Empowered Karang Taruna; Prosperous Indonesia.” It marked a strategic moment for the government to strengthen synergy with Karang Taruna, a youth organization celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2025 and with extensive experience in nurturing young generations across the country.
According to the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, the success of the creative economy depends on hexahelix collaboration, where Karang Taruna, as a youth organization, plays a strategic role in driving creative economy growth to the community level. Based on 2025 BPS data, the creative economy sector employs 27.4 million people, with around 57.2 percent under the age of 42, highlighting youth as the dominant driving force in this sector.

The presence of Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene reinforces the government’s commitment to empowering youth as the new engine of growth, driven from the grassroots.
Karang Taruna National Chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono expressed gratitude and high expectations for the organization, stating that Karang Taruna will serve as an engine of community empowerment, promote economic independence, and foster collaboration across ministries to improve welfare from the village level, in line with the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.
Karang Taruna’s guiding principles are militancy, professionalism, innovation, inclusivity, integrity, and collaboration. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, as Karang Taruna’s General Advisor, praised the strengthening of this youth organization.
“Karang Taruna provides young people with a platform to learn leadership, strengthen social responsibility, and drive youth potential development programs. The inauguration of the national board reinforces the foundation for youth to contribute from the local level to national development,” he said.

Meanwhile, Banten Governor Andra Soni highlighted Karang Taruna’s role in uniting communities and promoting social empowerment at the regional level.
“My experience with Karang Taruna shows that this organization inspires youth to act locally and become drivers of social welfare. Empowered Karang Taruna means a prosperous Indonesia, and we support their ongoing innovation and contributions,” said Andra Soni.
The inauguration and National Working Meeting of Karang Taruna 2025–2030 exemplify how the government and youth organizations can collaborate to empower young people, enhance creative capacities, and drive the growth of the creative economy from the grassroots level.
