“Creative economy is not only about art or entertainment but also the new engine of growth for the region. Danais can be leveraged to foster the creation of local IP, activate public spaces, and build collaborations with the diaspora. All of this is possible if we build an interconnected ecosystem involving universities, communities, local governments, and global markets,” said Deputy Minister Irene during a talk show at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, on Friday, July 4, 2025.
Deputy Minister Irene was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito Abimanyu in the talk show themed “Utilizing the Specialty Fund to Enhance Tourism and the Creative Economy Sector.” She also underlined the importance of involving the younger generation in developing local IP and creative content.

“We need more young innovators who not only create works but also generate cultural and economic added value. And all of that can begin right here on campuses like UGM,” she conveyed to the students attending the talk show.
In the discussion session, Deputy Minister Irene emphasized the need for a holistic ecosystem approach, starting from academic research, idea incubation in communities, to policy and financing support by local governments. One of the strategies discussed was the utilization of Danais through Special Financial Assistance (BKK) to support creative spaces, promote local IP, provide talent training, and digitalize content from destinations such as Borobudur and other heritage sites. Yogyakarta is seen as having a unique advantage as a cultural epicenter that thrives alongside the creative economy ecosystem.

The city not only produces numerous artists and young creators but also serves as a meeting point between tradition and innovation. With targeted use of Danais, Yogyakarta has the potential to become a model of a culture-based creative city that competes globally while staying rooted locally.
The talk show also served as a platform for cross-ministerial and cross-sector dialogue, encouraging the development of integrated policies for strengthening regional creative economies. With the presence of Deputy Minister of Finance Anggito and university leadership, the forum reflected a shared commitment to positioning Danais as a strategic instrument for advancing creative and cultural tourism sectors.
