Jakarta, June 11, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, highlighted the great potential of the gaming industry in Indonesia. However, she emphasized that this potential requires innovative and sustainable policy support.

Deputy Minister Irene attended the Gameseed 2025 roadshow, the largest game competition and incubation event in Indonesia. The event is also one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Creative Economy, which collaborates with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI) and is supported by several program partners.
“Games are one of the creative economy subsectors with the potential to become a new engine of growth for Indonesia. Through Gameseed 2025, we aim to boost the export of locally developed games and provide opportunities for Indonesian game developers to showcase their innovations to the global industry,” said Deputy Minister Irene at the event held at Bina Nusantara University (Binus University), Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Gameseed also aims to foster globally competitive games, develop sustainable game studios, and promote growth in the creative economy. Deputy Minister Irene further emphasized that the creative economy sector not only contributes significantly to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but also creates job opportunities, strengthens cultural identity, and builds national competitiveness through quality job opportunities for the young generation.
At the same event, Cheryl Tansil, Expert Staff to the Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office, stated that the use of games as tools to enhance economic value and promote technological innovation must be carried out wisely and with clear direction. She also underscored the high potential of the gaming industry.
“In this context, games can serve as effective platforms to drive creativity and innovation, while raising public awareness about the potential of the gaming industry,” said Cheryl.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy, reported that the competition has been open to both general and student game developers from May 20 to June 10, 2025. A total of 730 applicants registered, consisting of 451 university students and 279 in the general category.
“Gameseed has proven successful in attracting young talent and increasing awareness of the game industry's potential, particularly through universities as the foundation for a talent ecosystem,” said Deputy Neil El Himam.
Gameseed 2025 also received support from Andry Chowanda, Head of the Computer Science Department – Greater Jakarta, Bina Nusantara University. According to Andry, Binus strongly supports the Gameseed 2025 program as an effort to develop young talent in the gaming sector and position Indonesia as a global game development hub.
“By taking part in the Gameseed roadshow, Binus hopes to help raise awareness and strengthen the capabilities of young talents in the gaming field,” said Andry.
