HUG K-Pop Concert Becomes a Manifestation of Indonesia–Korea Creative Economy Collaboration

Jakarta, 17 January 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, attended the HUG K-Pop Concert: K-Life & K-Live Indonesia, held at the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE), PIK 2, Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday (17/1).

The event is part of cross-country cooperation between the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) in the development of the creative economy sector.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister Irene emphasized that Indonesia–Korea collaboration through this concert reflects an open and globally oriented direction for creative economy development.

“Tonight marks a moment that shows how the creative economy can serve as a meeting space across nations. Cooperation like this is essential to expanding networks, opening market access, and creating new added value for Indonesia’s creative economy. We want Indonesia to emerge as an inspirator and a leader on the global stage,” said Irene.

Irene added that international partnerships are part of the government’s long-term strategy to position the creative economy as “The New Engine of Growth.”

“Cooperation between the Ministry of Creative Economy and KOCCA is a tangible example of strengthening the creative industry, while also ensuring a healthy ecosystem through cross-ministerial coordination, including the protection of creative industry players and consumers,” she added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Stella Christie, stated that the event also holds strategic value from the perspective of education, science, and youth creativity development.

“Music is not only entertainment, but also closely related to science, how the brain works, and the development of creativity. This concert shows how creative spaces can serve as relevant learning platforms while generating real impact for the younger generation,” said Stella.

Chief Representative of KOCCA Indonesia, Lee Gi Haun, added that the HUG K-Pop Concert was organized as a form of appreciation for K-Pop fans in Indonesia.

“This event is a gift for fans, and at the same time part of KOCCA’s efforts to expand cooperation between the Korean content industry and partners in Indonesia,” explained Lee Gi Haun.

The concert featured Korean artists HIGHLIGHT and MINHO, as well as Indonesian musicians Tiara Andini and Lullaboy, serving as a cultural meeting point between Korean and Indonesian popular culture through music and entertainment. Concert tickets were provided free of charge to the public through registration programs, giveaways, and limited walk-in access.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister Irene Umar was accompanied by Agustini Rahayu, Deputy for Media Creativity; Yuana Rochma Astuti, Director of Digital Content; and Mohammad Amin, Director of Music.

The event was also attended by Farida Farichah, Deputy Minister of Cooperatives, as well as Park Soo-Deok, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, as part of strengthening bilateral collaboration in the creative economy sector.
