Indonesian Animation Goes Global: Two Local IPs Secure Follow-Up Commitments from Taiwanese and Canadian Studios

Singapore, 6 December 2025 — Once again, Indonesian-made animation proves its global caliber. At the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) 2025 in Singapore, two Indonesian animation intellectual properties (IPs) drew strong interest from studios based in Taiwan and Canada.

The IPs KOMARONG and Galeo Anak Segara, created by participants of the AKTIF (Akselerasi Kreatif) program of the Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency, successfully captured international attention. KOMARONG, created by Ida Bagus Aditya Wardana and Gilang Bhagaskara, attracted interest from Xhantus Animation Studio (Taiwan), while Galeo Anak Segara, created by Andara Fembriarto of Studio Amarana, was eyed by Betterhalf Films (Toronto, Canada). Both IPs secured Commitments for Advanced Discussion, signaling serious follow-up exploration.

Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Agustini Rahayu, stated that promotional strategies for film and animation through showcases and business forums are not only promising for Indonesia and Singapore, but also for the broader Asian region. She noted that regional collaboration—positioning Singapore as an international creative industry hub alongside Indonesia’s strong creative products and services—can generate investment and drive inclusive, innovative, and globally competitive growth in the film and animation industry.

“Indonesia’s presence at ATF 2025 is an integral part of the Ministry of Creative Economy’s strategy to bring Indonesian creative content to the global market. This platform provides opportunities for filmmakers and young creators to present their film and animation projects to international buyers, investors, and potential partners. And thankfully, Indonesian IPs received special attention in the form of serious follow-up commitments from Canadian and Taiwanese studios at ATF 2025,” said Agustini Rahayu, affectionately known as Ayu.

From an economic perspective, Ayu emphasized that forums such as ATF can drive creative exports and open investment opportunities. These platforms have the potential to generate foreign exchange, create jobs, and provide broader exploration space for Indonesia’s creative talent.

“With structured support from the Ministry of Creative Economy, this momentum can become a tangible leap forward for Indonesia’s film and animation industry,” she added.

Meanwhile, Andara, creator of Galeo Anak Segara, expressed gratitude for the government’s role through the Ministry of Creative Economy in opening pathways for creators to grow. He highlighted the importance of business-oriented learning support that enables IP creators to innovate sustainably.

“In my view, the role of the Ministry of Creative Economy is extremely significant in helping us IP creators develop our works—not only from the creative side, but also from the business perspective. The response to our work from various countries has been very positive. Some IPs have even been approached by multiple studios for further collaboration,” said Andara.

Similarly, Gilang, co-creator of KOMARONG, noted the government’s strong commitment through the Ministry of Creative Economy to continuously support and promote the film, animation, and video subsector on the global stage through international events.

“Here, we have the opportunity to meet global players in the entertainment, media, and animation industries, which is extraordinary. We’ve also gained several promising prospects that we will continue to discuss with potential buyers and investors,” said Gilang on Friday, 5 December 2025.

At ATF 2025, the Ministry of Creative Economy brought three film IPs and three animation IPs to meet global buyers and investors. These six IPs were previously curated through the AKTIF program. In addition to KOMARONG and Galeo Anak Segara, the showcased works included KWARTET (Animation): Watujiwo Series by Dieky Suprayogi, as well as film IPs Bong (Of Womb and Tomb) by Destian Rendra, Pelabuhan Berkabut (Fish, Please!) by Haris Yuliyanto, and Komik Jagoan (Face It Like a Man) by Dwitya Yoga Dharmawangsa.

Throughout ATF 2025, the Indonesian showcase booth attracted significant attention from visitors, buyers, and international distributors. Dozens of scheduled meetings and walk-in discussions were recorded with representatives from various countries across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Iin Kusumastiwi, CEO of Metra TV, viewed this as strong potential resulting from international promotional collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy through the AKTIF program.

“Works produced through the AKTIF Program demonstrate highly competitive quality at the international level—from narrative and visuals to message delivery. The titles showcased at the booth reflect strong Indonesian cultural uniqueness while maintaining a universal storytelling approach. We believe these works are not only competitive, but also capable of bringing fresh perspectives to the global creative landscape,” said Iin.

To further strengthen film and animation promotion at ATF Singapore, the Ministry of Creative Economy also organized the Indonesia Film & Animation Networking Dialogue at Suntec City. This event featured a networking dinner, content showcase, and strategic presentations, all designed as a B2B forum connecting producers, animation studios, OTT platforms, and industry stakeholders to open collaboration opportunities between Indonesia’s film and animation industries and global partners.

“The potential of Indonesian film and animation works showcased through the AKTIF program at ATF is immense. These works are deeply rooted in Indonesian settings and elements. Just as Indonesia is rich in natural resources, it also possesses extraordinary cultural, historical, and social diversity—making it a vast ‘IP mine’ yet to be fully explored. The AKTIF program demonstrates that Indonesia not only has compelling stories, but also the industrial capacity to package those stories into competitive creative products,” added Aileen Yapto, GM Creative and Global Business Link Group.

The forum was attended by Deputy for Media Creativity Agustini Rahayu, Director of Film, Animation, and Video Doni Setiawan, representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore including Baiq Frieda Intan Nouvia, and more than 20 strategic companies from Indonesia, Singapore, and other countries, including RTV, MVP Pictures, Vidio, Metra TV, Infinite Studios, Rangkai.id, mm2 Entertainment, Disney SEA, Netflix Asia Pacific, IMDA Singapore, Xhantus Animation Studio, Betterhalf Films, and Link Group.
