Jakarta, 23 September 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy is encouraging illustration and visual art works to go beyond gallery displays and transform into living intellectual property (IP) through merchandise, animation, and other commercial avenues. This was conveyed by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, during the opening of the Jakarta Illustration & Creative Arts Fair (JICAF) 2025 at The Space, Senayan City, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 23 September 2025.
Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, meninjau Jakarta Illustration & Creative Arts Fair (JICAF) 2025 di The Space, Senayan City, Jakarta, Selasa (23/09/2025).
“JICAF is not just an exhibition, but a window for the world to see the strength of Indonesian creative talent. Through illustration and visual arts, we can build new narratives, expand markets, and bring the works of our people to a global level. This is what we call the new engine of growth for Indonesia’s creative economy,” said the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.
JICAF 2025 carries the theme “New Heights” and is held from 18 September to 5 October 2025. The fair features illustrators, creators, and artists across various mediums, as well as interactive programs such as Meet the Artist, workshops, and live drawing sessions.
The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy highlighted the importance of transforming exhibitions like JICAF into sustainable ecosystems that foster cross-sector collaboration.

“We encourage that works displayed at JICAF should not stop at gallery walls but evolve into living intellectual property (IP)—from merchandise to animation, and collaborations with brands. This way, artists are recognized not only for their work but also gain a sustainable business model,” added the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.
JICAF 2025 also offers educational programs for schools and universities, expanding public access and strengthening creative literacy, thereby enhancing public understanding of visual arts and illustration as a vital component of the creative economy ecosystem.
