Jumbo to Be Released in 17 Countries, Visinema Praises Ministry of Creative Economy Support in Breaking into the Global Market

Jakarta, March 13, 2025 – The tangible support from the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency has been a key factor in the success of the animated film Jumbo breaking into the international market. Visinema expressed its appreciation for the Ministry of Creative Economy concrete efforts in supporting Jumbo from the early stages through to execution. This achievement proves that Indonesian animation talent is capable of competing at a global level, with the Ministry of Creative Economy ongoing commitment to advancing the nation’s creative industries.

This statement was conveyed by Visinema at the Jumbo Gala Premiere held at Epicentrum XXI, Jakarta, on Friday, March 13, 2025. The event was attended by the Minister of Creative Economy/Head of Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, along with Deputy for Media Creativity, Agustini Rahayu.

Minister of Creative Economy Riefky praised the development of Indonesia’s film and animation sectors, highlighting the full support given to the release of the animated film Jumbo. The film has officially been launched and is set to screen in cinemas across Indonesia during the 2025 Eid holiday season.

In his remarks, Minister of Creative Economy Riefky stated that Jumbo stands as a tangible example of local animated work capable of competing globally.

"Today, we are not just celebrating the launch of a film, but also one of the major milestones in Indonesia’s animation industry. Jumbo is concrete proof that Indonesia’s creative industries are growing stronger, more innovative, and ready to compete on a global stage," he said.

The Ministry of Creative Economy has provided full support for the production of Jumbo from its early stages, even before the official trailer was released. This support aligns with the directive from President Prabowo Subianto, through the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), to strengthen Indonesia’s animation ecosystem. Minister of Creative Economy Riefky explained that the support included targeted and effective strategic policies.

"We act as a bridge between creative economy players and strategic partners to ensure the effective and sustainable development of each subsector. Additionally, based on an expert survey we conducted in 2024, the Film, Animation, and Video (FAV) subsector is predicted to be among the fastest-growing sectors. This is evidenced by the record-breaking 82 million viewers of Indonesian films in 2024, surpassing the 54 million recorded in 2023. We must seize this momentum to encourage more local works to penetrate international markets," he explained.

The animated film Jumbo will not only be screened domestically but also in 17 other countries including Turkey, Mongolia, Russia, and several European nations. Group President of Visinema and CEO of Visinema Studios, Herry B. Salim, described this achievement as an initial step for Indonesia’s animation industry in creating evergreen intellectual properties (IPs) recognized globally.

"Many people are familiar with evergreen IPs like Toy Story, Frozen, and others, all of which are foreign properties. Indonesia has yet to reach that point. We hope that Jumbo can be the first step toward Indonesia developing its evergreen IP — one that is not only prominent domestically but also internationally recognized," said Herry during the press conference following the gala premiere.

Founder and Group CEO of Visinema, Angga Dwimas Sasongko, expressed his gratitude for the genuine support provided by the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency.

"As a creator, I am deeply grateful and appreciative of the Ministry of Creative Economy’s responsiveness and extraordinary initiatives. Mr. Riefky, Ms. Irene, and the team didn’t just offer empty promises — they gave real support that enabled Jumbo to reach a broad audience, from brainstorming to execution. The key is how an IP can become widely recognized so we can win our market. What the Ministry of Creative Economy has done has made that possible today," said Angga.

The success of Jumbo in penetrating the international market is not only a triumph for a single film but also solid evidence that Indonesian animation talent can produce world-class works. Minister of Creative Economy Riefky reaffirmed the Ministry of Creative Economy commitment to continuing support for the animation industry.

"We firmly believe that Indonesia’s animation industry holds tremendous potential for growth. Therefore, we are fully committed to supporting animators and industry players in creating competitive and globally viable works," concluded Minister of Creative Economy Riefky.
