Meeting with Pariaman Creative Economy Practitioners, Minister of Creative Economy Encourages Acceleration of Regional Priority Subsectors

Pariaman, 9 August 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya encouraged artisans in Pariaman to level up through creativity, digitalization, and copyright protection. This was conveyed during a discussion with 12 local creative economy practitioners at the Pariaman City Hall, West Sumatra, on Saturday, 9 August 2025.

Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, bertemu pegiat ekraf Kota Pariaman, dorong akselerasi subsektor unggulan dari daerah, Pariaman, Sabtu (09/08/2025).

“We must realize that creative economy practitioners are divided into several clusters such as emerging, developing, and independent. The Ministry of Creative Economy continues to play a role in accelerating growth so that practitioners in the developing category can be encouraged to reach independence through curation processes, determining Intellectual Property (IP), increasing scale-up access, and facilitating promotion and networking,” said the Minister of Creative Economy.

This condition aligns with efforts to position the creative economy as a key driver of equitable development. The Minister also highlighted the focus on seven priority creative economy subsectors and emphasized the need to strengthen the value chain, including collaboration, digital marketing, and intellectual property protection.

“Of the 17 creative economy subsectors in Indonesia, 7 subsectors are prioritized or focused on for the next five years: culinary, crafts, fashion, games, applications, film-animation-video, and music. Creative economy practitioners also need to understand the creative economy value chain so they can identify challenges and create more integrated products for both online and offline marketplaces,” stated the Minister of Creative Economy.

As a coastal city, Pariaman has an approximately 12 km coastline and is surrounded by Padang Pariaman Regency, making it a strategic buffer area for Padang City. Out of the 12 participants, two representatives voiced the challenges they face in developing and expanding business models based on the creative economy.

“My main obstacle is that once products are in stock, marketing space is too difficult. I hope a facility can be created to accommodate all creative economy products in Pariaman so that artisans can focus solely on producing, while another center promotes and sells the products,” said Adek Ratman, a maker of miniature tabuik souvenirs and a practitioner of the crafts subsector.

One of the participants from the fashion subsector, Dedek Andika, also shared unique challenges in building a growing business that elevates sampan batik motifs.

“Our obstacle is the lack of product diversification. Currently, our capital is only enough to purchase materials, produce products, and pay monthly employee salaries. We hope that in the future, there will be programs from the Ministry of Creative Economy to help MSMEs like us develop digital sales and expand into other products such as bags,” said Dedek, owner of Pesona Minang Batik.

Also present at the event were Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy, Cecep Rukendi; Special Advisor to the Minister for Strategic Issues and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Rian Syaf; Mayor of Pariaman, Yota Balad; Member of the House of Representatives, Mulyadi; Chairman of the Pariaman Regional House of Representatives, Muhajir Muslim; and the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (police, military, prosecutors, and representatives from local courts).
