Minister of Creative Economy and Apple Strengthen Indonesia's Digital Talent Development

Jakarta, July 2, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, met with representatives of Apple Developer Academy to discuss collaboration on developing Indonesia's digital talent and strengthening the national creative economy ecosystem through the Apple Developer Academy and the Apple Developer Institute.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, receives a delegation from Apple Developer Academy at the Ministry of Creative Economy Office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The Minister emphasized that Apple Developer Academy can serve as a strategic partner in nurturing digital talent while supporting more evidence-based policymaking, particularly in the areas of digital human resources and intellectual property (IP) development.

"We can explore collaboration in talent development, for example by mapping Apple Developer Academy alumni—where they are, who they are, and how many there are. We can also collaborate on intellectual property (IP). Such initiatives would provide a roadmap for cooperation and help us identify potential areas of collaboration more effectively. Going forward, we look forward to working more closely to determine how we can contribute," said Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya at the Ministry of Creative Economy Office in Jakarta on Thursday (July 2).

Apple Developer Academy is a free app development training program that has been operating in Indonesia since 2018 in partnership with several universities. To date, Apple has established five Apple Developer Academies across Indonesia. The program has produced more than 3,000 alumni, approximately 95 percent of whom are employed in relevant fields.Photo: Bureau of Communications, Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency.

In addition, more than 250 applications have been launched through the App Store, while around 100 startups have emerged from the Apple Developer Academy ecosystem. The five academies currently serve more than 700 participants from 77 cities across 27 provinces, with a target of supporting nearly 1,000 learners annually through the Apple Developer Academy and Apple Developer Institute beginning in 2026.

Mike Orgill, Managing Director of Apple Asia Pacific, said Indonesia possesses tremendous potential to develop a talent-driven digital economy. According to him, Indonesia's app developer community has consistently demonstrated its ability to create digital products that compete successfully in global markets, opening borderless economic opportunities.

"Every year, we work with thousands of people, from those who are just beginning their learning journey to participants enrolled in our Apple Developer Academy programs. We also operate the Developer Institute for learners with more advanced skills. We cannot deliver these programs alone, which is why partnerships are essential. Our facilities are also open to the broader community, and we welcome opportunities to provide space, training, and activities beyond our core programs whenever needed," said Mike.

The meeting was also attended by Mirza Natadisastra, Head of Government Affairs at Apple Indonesia, and Reno Bagaskara, Analyst at Apple Indonesia. The Minister was accompanied by Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology; Rian Firmansyah, Special Staff to the Minister for Strategic Issues and Inter-Institutional Relations; Tri Wahyudi, Director of Applications; Luat S.P. Sihombing, Director of Games; and Rocklin Aprilius Anderson, Ministerial Expert Staff for Media.
