Minister of Creative Economy Applauds Byon Combat as a Globally Competitive IP Event

Jakarta, 21 November 2025 – The Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, expressed high appreciation for Byon Combat as a globally competitive Intellectual Property (IP) event. The recognition was delivered during the press conference of Byon Combat Showbiz Vol. 6: Indonesia vs Malaysia II at Tenis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta, Friday, 21 November 2025, following a prior official audience.

Minister Riefky emphasized that sports- and entertainment-based IP events such as Byon Combat hold significant potential to boost the creative economy’s contribution to GDP, create jobs, and attract investment. “Byon Combat has grown as an IP event that not only presents matches but also develops fighter character, storytelling, visual design, merchandising, and engaging content formats. The Ministry of Creative Economy is here to provide support and collaborate with Indonesian creative economy actors,” said Minister Riefky.

Over the past two years, Byon Combat has achieved remarkable milestones, including setting a record in the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) through Byon Combat Showbiz Vol. 5. The fifth edition earned the title “Combat Sports Show with the Highest Pay-Per-View Transactions via Streaming Service (Vidio).”Dok. Biro Komunikasi Kementerian Ekraf/ Badan Ekraf.

During the press conference, Minister Riefky, accompanied by Director of Publishing and Photography Iman Santosa, launched the Sport Photo Competition, a photography and sports video contest focusing on Byon Combat Showbiz Vol. 6. The competition is held in collaboration with Sony, Canva, and DNA Sport. Out of approximately 442 applicants, 20 photographers were selected through a curated process to participate.

“Byon Combat can serve as a platform for developing national talent. In addition, we support content creators, digital practitioners, and the development of Indonesian IP to reach the global stage. We believe Byon Combat can bridge high-energy sports with creative visual arts,” explained Minister Riefky.

Byon CEO, Yoshua Marcellos, welcomed the support and viewed the collaboration as a strategic step to advance the creative economy based on combat sports.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy creates competitions as a new space to promote the national creative economy. We feel appreciated and are optimistic that Indonesia’s combat sports industry has the potential to penetrate global markets,” he said.
