Jakarta, June 25, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya attended Spotify Loud & Clear Indonesia, expressing appreciation for Spotify’s active role in strengthening Indonesia’s music ecosystem through an inclusive and transparent streaming platform while expanding global market access for Indonesian musical talent.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya delivers remarks during Spotify Loud & Clear Indonesia at 25hours Hotel Jakarta, Thursday (June 25, 2026).
“When Indonesian songs are played in Malaysia, the United States, and many other countries, music does more than entertain—it introduces Indonesia’s stories, culture, and identity to the world. This is the power of the creative economy in expanding Indonesia’s global influence,” said the Minister at 25hours Hotel Jakarta on Thursday (June 25).
Loud & Clear is Spotify’s annual transparency initiative that provides insights into how streaming royalties are generated and distributed. The initiative also highlights how streaming services help artists expand their global reach, build audiences, and develop sustainable careers.
The Minister emphasized the Ministry’s vision of empowering local talent to move up the value chain and compete in regional and international markets. Indonesia’s creative economy currently employs 27.4 million people, more than half of whom belong to Generation Z and the millennial generation.
This growth reflects increasing confidence in Indonesia’s creative industries as drivers of job creation, investment attraction, and global visibility. According to the Minister, streaming platforms have broadened access to the music industry while providing equal opportunities for musicians from across the country to gain wider recognition.
“Streaming platforms have democratized access to the music industry. Today, musicians from all corners of Indonesia have the same opportunity to be discovered by broader audiences. That is why collaboration between the government, the creative industry, and creators is essential to building a music ecosystem that is fair, sustainable, and economically rewarding for its participants,” Teuku Riefky added.

Gustav Back, Managing Director of Spotify Southeast Asia, revealed that throughout 2025, Indonesian artists’ works were discovered more than 6.3 billion times by new listeners on Spotify. Royalties earned by Indonesian musicians through the platform also increased by more than 16 percent compared to the previous year, with 60 percent of those earnings generated from international listeners.
“Indonesian music continues to experience remarkable growth among audiences both at home and abroad, including in the United States, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. Spotify remains committed to creating opportunities for artists to be discovered by new listeners and to build thriving fan communities,” said Gustav Back.
Spotify data also highlights the dominance of local music in the domestic market, with Indonesian artists accounting for 80 percent of songs featured in the Spotify Indonesia Daily Top 50 chart in 2025. This achievement serves as a strong indicator of the public’s growing appreciation for Indonesian creative works, both domestically and internationally.
Collaboration and synergy between the government and industry remain crucial in building a music ecosystem that is adaptive, inclusive, and globally competitive.
