Jakarta, April 10, 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy expressed its appreciation for the selection of Indonesian independent film producer Yulia Evina Bhara as an official jury member of Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week), one of the key programs at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, stated that Yulia’s participation in Critics’ Week is a source of pride for Indonesia and a clear testament to the competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative industry on the global stage.
"We are proud of Yulia Evina Bhara’s achievement. Her participation as a jury member in Critics’ Week not only reflects the high quality of Indonesian filmmakers but also strengthens Indonesia’s position as an emerging force in global cinema," said Minister Riefky.
Yulia Evina Bhara is widely known for her work producing independent films that are both artistically and socially powerful. One of her notable productions, Tiger Stripes (2023), won the Grand Prix at Critics’ Week, making her one of the key figures connecting Southeast Asian cinema to the global stage.
One of Yulia’s latest co-productions, Renoir, produced by Loaded Films Ltd and directed by Chie Hayakawa, alongside Amerta Kusuma and KawanKawan Media, has been selected to compete in the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival—showcasing world-class cross-country collaboration.

The Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from May 13–24, 2025, in France, is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. Critics’ Week serves as one of its official programs, specifically highlighting emerging talents from around the globe.
The Ministry of Creative Economy remains committed to supporting industry growth, monitoring film sector development, and ensuring policies that favor creative economy players, including access to international markets, promotion, and cross-country strategic collaborations.

The involvement of Indonesian talent in global forums such as Cannes is an important part of Indonesia’s creative economy strategy and aligns with the government’s efforts to create quality jobs for young generations through concrete actions that expand employment opportunities.
In addition, Indonesian films continue to show significant progress. During the Eid holiday period, local films drew more than 5 million viewers, reflecting both the enormous potential of the Indonesian film industry and the public’s growing confidence in homegrown works.
Under the leadership of Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya, the Ministry of Creative Economy aims to create 27 million quality jobs within the next five years, particularly targeting youth employment.
Supported by Deputy Minister Irene Umar, Minister Riefky continues to promote the development of the 17 creative economy subsectors to realize the vision and mission of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran, especially Asta Cita point number 3: increasing quality employment, fostering entrepreneurship, and strengthening the creative industry.
Through a hexahelix approach to ecosystem development, the Ministry and Creative Economy Agency are poised to become “the new engine of growth” that drives national economic progress from the regions.
