Minister of Creative Economy Attends Awarding Ceremony of Magical Casting Bootcamp “Timun Mas in Wonderland! The Movie”

Jakarta, October 5, 2025 — Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, expressed the government’s full support for the musical film “Timun Mas in Wonderland! The Movie”, which will bring Indonesian folklore to the global stage. The statement was delivered during the Awarding Ceremony of the Magical Casting Bootcamp in Jakarta, Saturday, October 5, 2025, as a positive signal for one of the creative economy subsectors—Indonesia’s film industry.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, attended the Awarding Ceremony of the Magical Casting Bootcamp ‘Timun Mas in Wonderland! The Movie’ at Liberta Hotel, Jakarta, on Sunday (10/05/2025).

“I feel proud and excited to be here today. The Awarding Ceremony of the Magical Casting Bootcamp is part of the production process for Timun Mas in Wonderland. The Ministry of Creative Economy has been mandated by President Prabowo to develop the creative economy sector, with seven priority subsectors, one of which is film. We strongly support films that highlight Indonesia’s cultural storytelling, as our nation is rich with thousands of legends, heroic tales, ancient kingdoms, and folk stories from every region,” said the Minister of Creative Economy at Liberta Hotel, Jakarta.

The Minister emphasized that one of the greatest challenges for Indonesia’s film industry is presenting cultural stories through compelling storytelling that appeals to the market segment. However, seeing the production team’s thorough preparations, the Minister expressed optimism that the film will not only achieve success domestically but also penetrate international markets.

“The target release of this film is set for December 2026. Early promotional efforts have been prepared through the launch of songs, music videos, and theatrical performances prior to the film’s premiere. These preconditions are essential to build anticipation among audiences. The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to provide full assistance and support,” the Minister asserted.

In addition to presenting medals to participant representatives and handing out two trophies, the Minister of Creative Economy was also given a novel titled Timun Mas in Wonderland written by Karisma Bestari. The winners of the Star in Motions awards were Rifat El Hakim (Best Child Actor) and Shereen Aintzane (Best Child Actress), both recognized under the Judge’s Choice category.

This program is part of a creative initiative by Indonesian youth to bring local folklore to global screens. Through training programs in acting, singing, and dancing, the initiative aims to nurture a new generation of creative industry talents from an early age. This was conveyed by Timun Mas in Wonderland writer and creative director, Andre Aksana.

“We have taken various creative steps to ensure the product is ready to reach the public. By the time the film hits cinemas, audiences will already be anticipating it, as we have written and published an illustrated novel by Karisma Bestari. This musical film carries a modern concept, relevant to the new generation, combining visuals, effects, and animation,” said Andre.

He added that international support has further strengthened optimism for this production. Last week, SAE Australia Indonesia Institute confirmed its full commitment to supporting the production process, continuing its contribution after being involved in the animated film Jumbo.

The presence of multiple stakeholders demonstrates tangible cross-sector collaboration to strengthen Indonesia’s film ecosystem, making it more competitive both nationally and internationally.

The Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Director of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Dadam Mahdar.
