Minister of Creative Economy Commends JFW as the Fashion Capital of Southeast Asia

Jakarta, 2 November 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing Indonesian fashion toward global markets through strategies rooted in sustainable and digital fashion. This commitment was conveyed during the peak event of Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2026, which has become a strong momentum to enhance networks and cross-country collaboration within ASEAN.

Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, Memberi sambutan pada acara Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2026 yang berlangsung di City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, Jakarta, Minggu (2/11/2025).

“Jakarta Fashion Week has become an important momentum to strengthen inter-country networks, open opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration, and reinforce a commitment to sustainable and digital fashion as the future of the modern industry,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky at City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, South Jakarta, Sunday, 2 November 2025.

The Minister attended JFW 2026 alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the ASEAN Fashion Parade session. He expressed appreciation for this celebration of creativity, which contributes to building a sustainable and globally competitive Indonesian fashion ecosystem.

JFW 2026 marks the 18-year milestone of a long journey that highlights Jakarta’s potential as Southeast Asia’s fashion barometer. This aligns with data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) 2024–2025, noting that fashion investment realization reached 9.43 percent and fashion export value in the first semester of 2025 amounted to 7 million US dollars.

“We take pride in and appreciate Jakarta Fashion Week as a highly popular Intellectual Property (IP) event that elevates collaboration among ASEAN countries,” said the Minister.

The creative economy has become the new engine of national economic growth, with significant increases in investment, exports, employment, and contributions to GDP. The fashion subsector stands as one of the leading creative economy subsectors, with its creativity trends continually evolving and remaining relevant to global preferences.

“The government remains committed to strengthening Indonesia’s fashion ecosystem through facilitation programs that include training, financing, and export promotion. Let us make Jakarta Fashion Week 2026 a space of inspiration and proof that fashion is not merely a lifestyle, but also an economic force and creative identity rooted in the nation’s culture. Thank you for your continued support in driving the creative economy as the new engine of growth,” said the Minister.

Echoing this statement, the Jakarta Governor emphasized that the fashion industry is one of the 17 creative economy subsectors contributing significantly to the Jakarta regional economy. The fashion industry recorded a value-added growth of 7.30 percent, indicating its potential and role as a driver of economic expansion in 2024. This year, Jakarta’s economic growth reached 5.18 percent with the city contributing 16.61 percent to the national GDP.

“The growth of the fashion subsector in Jakarta is supported by broad market access and strong purchasing power, as well as public preference for creative products. With a diverse range of shopping centers and markets, Jakarta offers substantial opportunities for fashion industry players to reach consumers,” said Pramono Anung.

As a city with constantly evolving cultural and creative dynamics, Jakarta continues to assert its role as the Fashion Hub of Southeast Asia. It has become not only a center of inspiration but also a city filled with a modern lifestyle that provides space for ideas, design, and innovation from highly creative generations.

“We believe that Jakarta Fashion Week is not merely a platform to celebrate the creativity of outstanding designers, but also an event that generates a significant economic multiplier effect. Let us continue to synergize, create, collaborate, and innovate to strengthen Jakarta as a center of creativity and cultural exchange in Southeast Asia, with the spirit of welcoming Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027,” added Pramono Anung.

JFW 2026 was held from 27 October to 2 November 2025, carrying the theme “Legacy of Style.” The ASEAN Fashion Parade featured collections by three prominent designers from Singapore (Frederick Lee), the Philippines (Francis Libiran), and Malaysia (Rizman Ruzaini).

“The ASEAN Fashion Parade is more than a fashion showcase; it is a shared platform where heritage, innovation, and collective creativity draw the world’s attention. Fashion becomes a powerful expression of identity, symbolizing collaboration, unity, and the creative excellence of the entire ASEAN region. Let us celebrate JFW 2026 not only as a moment of style, but as a celebration of the diversity that unites us,” said Savida Alisjahbana, Chairwoman of Jakarta Fashion Week.

Each collection presented during the ASEAN Fashion Parade carried unique cultural interpretations and fashion innovations that reflect the diversity of the region. The works of ASEAN designers introduced cultural narratives while strengthening bonds of friendship among ASEAN countries. Between the runway presentations, the audience was also entertained by two of Indonesia’s renowned divas, Krisdayanti and Rossa.
