Minister of Creative Economy Discusses Indonesia–Geneva Creative Economy Collaboration with Indonesian Ambassador to Geneva

Jakarta, 4 November 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to positioning the creative economy as “the new mining”—a new goldmine for diplomacy and economic growth. This commitment is being realized through strategic collaboration with the Indonesian Ambassador to Geneva, leveraging international platforms such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) to expand global market access for local creative industry players.

Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, menerima audiensi dari Perwakilan Duta Besar RI untuk Jenewa, Jakarta, Selasa (4/11/2025).

“We hope the Ministry of Creative Economy can orchestrate Indonesia’s creative economy potential—Geneva is often described in international literature as ‘the new mining.’ Philosophically, this means creative economy is not only a diplomatic tool but also a new engine of national economic growth,” said the Minister during an audience with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations, WTO, and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Tuesday, 4 November 2025.

The Ministry of Creative Economy continues to encourage the development of a creative economy ecosystem focused on human resource development, equitable intellectual property protection, and youth-driven creative subsectors. The meeting was part of a broader effort to ensure that the creative economy contributes significantly to generating quality jobs and value-added investment.

The Minister also highlighted that more than 170 associations have become partners of the Ministry, including ongoing cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

“Beyond increasing employment with globally competitive skills, we are enhancing the value-added potential of creative downstream industries rooted in local culture. Each creative subsector must maintain its ecosystem, and we prioritize seven subsectors strengthened through a hexahelix collaborative approach. We also need the role of the Embassy in regulatory matters as a form of shared concrete commitment,” the Minister noted.

Reinforcing the statement, Director of Marketing Systems Development and Institutional Relations, Radi Manggala, highlighted Indonesia’s preparations for the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, scheduled for October 2026 in conjunction with National Creative Economy Day.

“The momentum of WCCE requires collaboration across sectors to deliver a world-class conference that showcases Indonesia. A strategic plan—spanning pre-event, during-event, and post-event phases—will be developed through strong collaboration, including supporting Jakarta’s vision as a Global City approaching its 5th century. The expectation is for WCCE to be held next October along with the National Creative Economy Day celebration,” said Radi.

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, WTO, and Other International Organizations in Geneva (PTRI Geneva) serves as Indonesia’s diplomatic representation to organizations such as the United Nations Office at Geneva (UN Geneva), WTO, and other Geneva-based bodies. Its main functions include representing national interests in multilateral forums and conducting diplomacy in trade, environment, human rights, global health, disarmament, and broader international cooperation.

“Creativity is becoming increasingly important for younger generations—from Artificial Intelligence (AI) to developing Intellectual Property (IP)–based business models that can attract investors. Diplomats must also understand the importance of the creative economy, which is why education is needed,” said H.E. Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro.

The Minister was accompanied by the Secretary of the Ministry/Secretary-General of the Creative Economy Agency, Dessy Ruhati; Special Advisor to the Minister on Strategic and Inter-Institutional Issues, Rian Syaf; and Special Advisor on Legal Affairs and Creative Economy Development, Agus Sardjono. From the Geneva delegation were Diplomatic Middle-Rank Official of the Directorate General for ASEAN Cooperation, Meutia H. Hasan; Diplomatic Middle-Rank Official of the Directorate General for Law and International Treaties, Indra Sipayung; and Junior Diplomat of the Directorate General for Multilateral Cooperation, Rizka Pravitianasari.
