Jakarta, 23 January 2026 — The Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, attended the opening of the Indonesian Chinese Cultural Gallery at the Pantjoran PIK area, Jakarta, Friday (23/1/2026). The gallery is presented as a space for public education and interaction that documents the historical journey, resilience, and contributions of the Chinese-Indonesian community as an integral part of Indonesia’s cultural fabric.
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the Indonesian Chinese Cultural Gallery in the Pantjoran PIK area, Jakarta, Friday (23/1/2026).
The Minister emphasized that cultural values not only represent heritage from the past but also serve as a strategic asset for the development of the creative economy.
“Culture is capital for the future. History, art, traditions, and lived narratives that are creatively processed are capable of generating economic value added, opening space for innovation, and strengthening the competitiveness of creative economy actors,” said Teuku Riefky.

The Indonesian Chinese Cultural Gallery features thematic spaces that illustrate the dynamics of the Chinese-Indonesian community, ranging from early migration processes and intergenerational experiences to practices of acculturation in social, economic, and cultural life. This curatorial approach reinforces messages of togetherness while enriching public understanding of diversity.

The Minister added that cultural galleries play a strategic role as key nodes in building an inclusive and sustainable creative ecosystem.
“The values of acculturation, togetherness, and diversity presented in spaces like this remind us that differences are a unifying strength of the nation, while also enriching the creative industries,” he continued.
The presence of the Indonesian Chinese Cultural Gallery also opens opportunities for cross-community, educational, and creative industry collaboration, while encouraging the creation of cultural narrative-based creative products, design works, performing arts, and educational content. The gallery is expected to serve as an intergenerational dialogue platform that remains relevant in today’s context.

CEO of Amantara Agung Sedayu Group, Natalia Kusumo, stated that the Indonesian Chinese Cultural Gallery is designed as a historical educational space presented through innovative approaches, making information accessible and engaging.
“Inside, there are animations, photographs, reading materials, and most importantly, immersive experiences that allow visitors to feel the atmosphere experienced by the ancestors of Indonesian citizens of Chinese descent,” she explained.
The Ministry of Creative Economy encourages the utilization of cultural spaces as platforms to develop various creative subsectors based on intellectual property, visitor experience, and curatorial innovation. The integration of culture and creativity is believed to be capable of expanding markets, improving the quality of creative works, and strengthening national identity at the global level.

The gallery opening was also attended by CEO of Agung Sedayu Group Ellen Kusumo, CFO of Agung Sedayu Group Linda Kusumo, Edith Emeralda and the GBTI curatorial team, Head of Research and Exhibition Content at GBTI Lilawati Kurnia (UI–JCCS), participating artist FX. Harsono, as well as cultural figures, artists, academics, and community representatives.
