Minister of Creative Economy Explores Collaboration with Indonesian Consulate in New York

Jakarta, 19 November 2025 — The Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, explored strategic collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in New York to strengthen diplomacy and market access for Indonesia’s creative economy subsectors in the highly competitive U.S. market. This initiative is part of preparations for the 2026 international agenda as well as efforts to achieve the export and investment targets set by President Prabowo Subianto.

Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, menenerima audiensi dari KJRI New York, Winanto Adi, di kantor Kementerian Ekraf, Jakarta, Rabu (19/11/2025).

“Currently, we are drafting the 2026 agenda, focusing on international events that can feature Indonesia’s 17 creative economy subsectors. This will help us identify priority programs,” said Minister Riefky during an audience with KJRI New York representative Winanto Adi at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.

The Minister hopes the meeting will generate ideas and programs that strengthen Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem while promoting the country’s potential in international markets. According to the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the Ministry of Creative Economy aims to increase exports, investment, employment, and the contribution of the creative economy to the national GDP.

“There are numerous intellectual properties (IP) from Indonesia’s creative economy subsectors — including music, film, fashion, culinary, gaming, and apps — that can be promoted abroad. With the support of all stakeholders, including the KJRI team, we hope to achieve the President’s targets for 2026,” Minister Riefky added.

Reinforcing this, Special Staff for Strategic and Inter-Agency Issues, Rian Syaf, noted that Indonesia can showcase creative products and talent internationally by focusing on IP commercialization and investment.

“Countries like the U.S., especially New York, already see a direct correlation between creativity, innovation, and economic return. In Indonesia, this alignment is still developing. Our challenge is how to convert cultural wealth into added value for creative products,” Rian Syaf explained.

As a global center for culture and the creative economy, New York hosts more than 170 museums and 1,400 galleries, serving as hubs for culinary arts, music, performing arts, film, and fashion. With a GDP of 2 trillion USD, New York represents a strategic export market for Indonesia’s creative economy.

“Beyond music and film, we also want to encourage Indonesian performing arts to showcase in New York,” said Winanto Adi.

Some of the creative subsector development initiatives identified and facilitated by KJRI New York include Camp Broadway Indonesia in collaboration with the Broadway Education Alliance (performing arts) and participation of Indonesian creative products at the Indonesia Pavilion in Shoppe Object New York (crafts). Additionally, partnerships with the Indonesian diaspora in New York are expected to further strengthen the creative ecosystem.

KJRI representatives included Social-Cultural Consul, Dea Kurniawan.
