“At the moment, we are mapping out our 2026 agenda, especially identifying international events that could involve the 17 creative economy subsectors and determining which should become priority programs,” said the Minister of Creative Economy during a meeting with KJRI New York Consul General Winanto Adi at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
The Minister expressed hope that the meeting would generate ideas and programs that strengthen the creative economy ecosystem while promoting Indonesia’s potential in international markets. He emphasized that under the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the Ministry of Creative Economy targets increased exports, investment, employment, and contributions to the creative economy’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“There is a wide range of Intellectual Property (IP) that can be brought forward from each creative economy subsector—such as music, film, fashion, culinary, games, and applications. With support from all parties, including our colleagues at KJRI, we hope to achieve the targets set by the President for the Ministry of Creative Economy in 2026,” the Minister stated.
Echoing this, the Minister’s Special Advisor for Strategic Issues and Inter-Agency Affairs, Rian Syaf, added that Indonesia can promote its creative products and talents on the global stage by focusing on the commercialization and investment of intellectual property.
“In countries like the United States, especially in New York, creativity and innovation are directly tied to economic returns for the region. This differs from Indonesia, which presents the challenge of ensuring that our cultural wealth translates into value-added creative products,” Rian Syaf explained.
As a global hub for culture and creative industries, New York is home to more than 170 museums and 1,400 galleries, and serves as a center for culinary arts, music, performing arts, film, and fashion. With a GDP of USD 2 trillion, New York represents a strategic export market for Indonesia’s creative economy.

“In addition to music and film, we also hope to promote Indonesia’s performing arts subsector to showcase their works in New York,” said Winanto Adi.
Several creative economy development initiatives have been identified and initiated by KJRI New York, including Camp Broadway Indonesia in collaboration with Broadway Education Alliance (performing arts) and the participation of Indonesian creative products at the Indonesia Pavilion at Shoppe Object New York (crafts). Furthermore, strong relationships and collaboration with the Indonesian diaspora in New York will continue to strengthen the creative ecosystem moving forward.

“Indonesia can also send fashion designers to learn about new products and trends through dialogue forums in New York, allowing them to observe the characteristics of an advanced product market supported by a mature ecosystem,” added KJRI New York Economic Consul Fahmad Rifqi Ramulo.
The Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied in the meeting by Deputy for Strategic Creative Economy Development, Cecep Rukendi; Director of Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations, Radi Manggala; and Director of Fine Arts and Performing Arts, Dadam Mahdar. Representing KJRI New York was Social and Cultural Affairs Consul, Dea Kurniawan.
