“If we think only within our limitations, we will not progress. That is why we need a hexahelix collaboration to address the challenges,” said Minister Teuku Riefky during the meeting held at the Ministry’s office on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The Minister underscored LSF’s important role in ensuring the sustainability of the film industry. He also highlighted the need to intensify public education on intellectual property rights to prevent piracy.
“We agree that Indonesia’s film industry must be strengthened through various potential collaborations, including promoting the self-censorship awareness program and developing national film ecosystem data,” he added.

The Minister noted that the national film sector is currently experiencing positive growth. Based on data from Cinepoint and filmindonesia.or.id, local films attracted 42.6 million viewers from the start of the year until June 30, 2025—already half of last year’s record-breaking 82.1 million audience.
Film continues to hold remarkable potential, as highlighted in the 2024/2025 Tourism and Creative Economy Outlook. The report shows that the film, animation, and video subsector has significant potential in driving the national creative economy, contributing 53.49 percent, followed by the culinary subsector at 46.51 percent and fashion at 37.21 percent.
According to the Minister, the creative economy is unique in that its subsectors complement and strengthen each other. In the film industry context, the Ministry is ready to assist films facing scheduling challenges and to support their promotion.

“With the Ministry’s network of content creators, we can help promote national films, bring them to wider audiences, and assist production houses in reducing promotional costs,” explained Minister Riefky.
Meanwhile, Chair of LSF Naswardi reported that in 2024, the board issued more than 42,339 censorship approval certificates for films, film trailers, and commercial advertisements across various platforms, including 285 Indonesian feature films. Of these, 255 foreign films came from 17 countries, with the largest numbers from the United States, South Korea, India, and Thailand.

However, only 108 Indonesian films were screened in cinemas. The remaining 177 films are still awaiting release due to the limited number of cinema screens in Indonesia, currently at around 2,145 nationwide.
As a non-structural institution, LSF is authorized to revoke censorship approval certificates if violations or discrepancies are found and to propose administrative sanctions against film industry players who violate the Film Law. “Another challenge in the film industry is the limited number of active production houses.

Currently, only five production houses can produce nine films in a year, while others average only one to two films per year. To address this, LSF continues to strengthen cross-sector cooperation, including with the Ministry of Creative Economy,” said Naswardi.
One such initiative is promoting self-censorship awareness among various audiences, including students, to enhance their understanding of censorship regulations. LSF is also advocating for the digitalization of the censorship application process and the development of integrated national film data systems in collaboration with stakeholders.
“In creating a supportive ecosystem, LSF guarantees the security of works during the censorship process, including the protection of intellectual property rights—an ongoing concern for industry players. As a form of appreciation, LSF also presents the LSF Award to production houses, cinemas, and television networks that comply with censorship regulations,” he added.
