Bitung, June 25, 2025 — Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya described the culinary sub-sector in Bitung City, North Sulawesi, as highly promising. He emphasized the importance of elevating Bitung’s culinary offerings to the next level.

"We need to work on expanding the market so that these products can go national or even international. In terms of the creative economy value chain, North Sulawesi — particularly Bitung City — already has a solid foundation. I see tremendous potential here, with the ability to create jobs," said Minister Teuku Riefky at the opening of Bitung Street Food 2025 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The event, initiated by the local government, runs until July 19, 2025, showcasing North Sulawesi specialties such as Cakalang Fufu (smoked skipjack), Sambal Roa (smoked fish chili paste), and Pisang Goroho (a local banana variety), all produced by local MSMEs. Minister Teuku Riefky also took the opportunity to sample the dishes.
"From sambal to smoked skipjack and banana-based treats, everything was outstanding. Several products already feature attractive packaging and are market-ready. We hope Bitung’s designation as a creative city for the culinary sub-sector will also help other creative economy sub-sectors to flourish," he added.
The Minister stressed that Bitung’s culinary potential deserves strong support. Beyond the variety of dishes, Bitung’s culinary ecosystem has matured — from creation and packaging to distribution and consumption.
North Sulawesi Governor Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Yulius Stevanus expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s support, particularly in providing training and guidance to the community, especially young people.

"Without guidance, these products would remain very traditional. Now, thanks to support from the Ministry of Creative Economy, the packaging and taste have improved. This enables us to supply these products to hotels across North Sulawesi. So when guests check into their rooms, the snacks available are local products," Governor Yulius said.
Bitung’s creative economy has shown significant growth in recent years. Residents from all walks of life — from youth and families to entrepreneurs and creative communities — are encouraged to support and participate in Bitung Street Food 2025 as a platform for creative economy expression and collaboration.
Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Dessy Ruhati, Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy; Cecep Rukendi, Deputy for Strategic Development; and Yuke Sri Rahayu, Deputy for Cultural and Design Creativity. Governor Yulius was accompanied by Pingkan S. Kapoh, Head of the Bitung City Tourism and Culture Office.
