Denpasar, June 12, 2025 — Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, held an audience with the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, in Denpasar to discuss strategies for strengthening the creative economy sector. The discussion focused on adjusting local agency nomenclature and mapping out the potential of creative economy subsectors across Bali Province.

“Bali has a strong and comprehensive creative ecosystem. We aim to learn from Bali’s success and replicate this model in other regions. A key strategic move forward is encouraging the adoption of creative economy nomenclature, to be more focused and responsive to regional needs,” said Minister Teuku Riefky during the meeting, which took place at the official residence of the Governor of Bali, Jaya Sabha, on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Minister Teuku Riefky highlighted that Bali is one of the national priority provinces for the creative economy. All subsectors of the creative economy in Bali are thriving, making it a model worth adopting throughout Indonesia.
He also outlined a national target: by the end of 2025, 45% of provinces and 25% of regencies/cities are expected to have agencies or departments dedicated (nomenclature) specifically to the creative economy. This goal is supported through cross-ministerial collaboration.
Minister Riefky emphasized the importance of this effort as part of a broader strategy to grow the sector, create new jobs, and increase contributions to GDP, exports, and investment. According to data from the Ministry of Creative Economy, the creative workforce has grown by 29%, reaching a total of 26.5 million people over the past 11 years.
“Our ministry is focused on accelerating—not just incubating—creative talents so they can scale up and compete at both the national and global levels,” added Minister Teuku Riefky.
Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster welcomed the initiative, expressing Bali’s readiness to establish a dedicated agency or department to manage the creative economy sector.
“Bali’s people are naturally creative. The creative economy has already become one of our leading sectors. We continue to provide space for young talent, including through events like PICA Fest,” said the Governor of Bali, accompanied by the Head of Bali Provincial Tourism Office, I Wayan Sumarjaya.
He also noted that with 66% of Bali’s regional economy relying on tourism, there is a pressing need for diversification. Governor Koster sees the creative economy as a strategic solution to strengthen Bali’s resilience to external shocks.

Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Secretary of the Ministry Dessy Ruhati, Deputy for Strategic Development of Creative Economy Cecep Rukendi, Deputy for Digital and Technology Creativity Muhammad Neil El Himam, Senior Advisor for Marketing System and Infrastructure Septriana Tangkary, and Director for Fine Arts and Performing Arts Dadam Mahdar.
