Jakarta, October 1, 2025 – The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, held an audience with the Restoran Sederhana Group to discuss strategic steps for bringing Indonesian cuisine to the international market through the expansion of the Restoran Padang Sederhana network. Minister Teuku Riefky also affirmed President Prabowo Subianto's mandate regarding the creative economy, which focuses not only on job creation but also on the sector's contribution to investment, exports, and the national GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received an audience from Restoran Sederhana Group in Jakarta, on Wednesday (October 1, 2025).
“The seven priority subsectors, including culinary, are our focus, without neglecting other sectors. When we hear that Restoran Sederhana wants to go global, this will certainly bring Indonesia's brand, culture, and diplomacy to the world stage,” said Minister Teuku Riefky during the audience held at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Restoran Sederhana has grown rapidly since it was founded by Bustaman in 1972 in Jakarta. From a small eatery, it has now become the largest Padang restaurant chain in Indonesia with over 200 outlets. Restoran Sederhana is currently undergoing global expansion to extend the Minang culinary footprint to various countries, starting with Germany, Australia, and other potential nations.
Furthermore, Minister Teuku Riefky explained the potential for collaboration between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Restoran Sederhana, in line with the Asta Ekraf program. This collaboration includes strengthening databases, talent development, intellectual property protection, and synergy across ministries and institutions to fortify the Indonesian culinary ecosystem abroad.

“In terms of intellectual property, we have collaborated with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and have also signed an agreement with WIPO under the UN. This means the protection of Indonesian culinary brands can be applied globally. We are also coordinating with the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the expansion of Indonesian cuisine as a cultural ambassador,” added Minister Teuku Riefky.
Restoran Sederhana representative Nova Dana Eka Putri conveyed the main objectives and hopes for Sederhana's global expansion. These include support for the export process of spices and raw materials, which often faces regulatory hurdles in destination countries; brand protection to maintain the identity of Restoran Sederhana; and promotional and international media support to enhance its exposure as an icon of Indonesian cuisine.
“Additionally, we also need guidance on potential countries for expansion. Our goal is for Sederhana to become a widely recognized representation of local cuisine internationally,” said Nova.
