Minister of Creative Economy Reveals Positive Investment Trends in the Creative Economy Sector during Working Meeting at DPR

Jakarta, 4 September 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy together with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a working meeting to discuss the 2026 work plan and budget of Ministries/Agencies. This meeting became a momentum for the “One Year of Work, Moving with Impact” reflection for the Ministry of Creative Economy in strengthening the creative economy’s contribution as a driver of national economic growth starting from the regions.

In the presentation of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) 2025–2029 based on the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the Ministry of Creative Economy targets four main achievements: Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, export value, employment absorption, and investment growth. In 2024, the creative economy GDP grew by 5.69 percent and is targeted to reach 6.12 percent by 2029.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that, based on data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) processed by the Ministry, the largest foreign investment in the first semester of 2025 came from Singapore, reaching IDR 18.65 trillion. Domestically, DKI Jakarta remains the primary investment destination, with a surge from IDR 18.14 trillion in 2024 to IDR 25.97 trillion in 2025.

“Meanwhile, investment in the creative economy sector also shows a positive trend. In 2024, total investment reached IDR 64.22 trillion and by the first semester of 2025 has already reached IDR 90.12 trillion. The medium-term target is projected to reach IDR 152.3–183.7 trillion by 2029. This investment growth reflects investor confidence in Indonesia’s increasingly competitive creative economy ecosystem,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky during the working meeting on Thursday, 4 September 2025.

Similar optimism is observed in exports. Based on data from Customs, processed by the Ministry of Creative Economy, exports reached USD 25.1 billion in 2024, while the first semester of 2025 has already reached USD 13 billion, with projections to steadily rise to USD 33 billion by 2029. Regarding employment, the creative economy sector absorbed 26.5 million workers in 2024, projected to increase steadily to 27.7 million workers by 2029.

Exports by creative economy subsectors in the first semester of 2025 were dominated by fashion at USD 7.09 billion, craft at USD 5.01 billion, and culinary at USD 767 million. Market diversification has also strengthened, with shipments to Switzerland, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates increasing by 5.7 percent to 19.14 percent.

These trends confirm the competitiveness of Indonesian creative products, which are increasingly recognized worldwide. With proposed new programs such as Creative Village Empowerment, Craft & Culinary Industry for MSMEs, Local Events & Festivals, Inclusive & Social Programs, and considering positive impacts amid current challenges, the Ministry of Creative Economy proposed a new budget initiative of IDR 2.24 trillion. Minister Teuku Riefky emphasized the importance of proportional budget support to ensure the sustainability of priority programs.

“We hope the proposed programs receive technical and fiscal consideration to ensure the continuity of priority creative economy sector programs. Public services and creative economy programs must run optimally so that this sector truly becomes a new engine of national growth starting from the regions,” he stressed.

The chair of the working meeting, Commission VII DPR RI Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, in her conclusion approved the budget increase. She urged the funds to be reallocated into substantive programs that directly impact community welfare. “We want the budget allocation to genuinely strengthen the creative economy, thereby promoting economic growth and improving public welfare,” she said.

Also present at the meeting were Commission VII DPR RI Chairman Saleh Parataonan, Deputy Minister of MSMEs Helvi Yuni, Commission VII DPR RI Deputy Chair Chusnunia Chalim, Secretary of the Ministry of MSMEs Arif Rahman Hakim, and members of Commission VII DPR RI.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar, Secretary of the Ministry/Principal Secretary Dessy Ruhati, and several Echelon I and II officials of the Ministry of Creative Economy.
