Tangerang, 16 April, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized the importance of local talent and Intellectual Property (IP) as key drivers in strengthening the creative economy as the new engine of growth. Accelerating the creative economy ecosystem can be achieved through collaboration between government, academia, and industry.
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, reviewed creative production facilities at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN), Tangerang, Thursday (16/4/2026).
“We need to curate together with universities and associations to select the most ready talents and IPs, then accelerate them—from commercialization, access to financing, to expanding national and global markets,” said the Minister during his visit to UMN campus in Tangerang on Thursday (16/4).
During the visit, the Minister toured UMN’s creative production facilities, including the green screen, immersive lab, and UMN Pictures studio. The activities continued with a discussion involving students, lecturers, and animation industry players to explore strengthening the ecosystem from upstream to downstream, including talent development, production, and distribution of creative works.

The Minister reaffirmed that the Ministry will act as an accelerator in encouraging creative economy players to scale up through targeted curation and mentoring. He also highlighted the importance of not only curating but also accelerating and nurturing talent and IP from the early stages until they are ready to enter the market.
“We don’t want to stop at research. The results must be followed up with concrete actions that are directly felt by industry players,” he stressed.

Furthermore, the Ministry encouraged the formation of a small team involving the Ministry, UMN, and the Indonesian Animation Industry Association to produce quick wins that can be immediately implemented as concrete steps in strengthening the creative economy ecosystem.
UMN Rector Andrey Andoko stated that UMN is ready to strengthen the creative industry supply chain through a technology-based educational ecosystem and industry practices, including professional studio facilities such as UMN Pictures.

“Through this ecosystem, we ensure that talents are not only job-ready but also capable of contributing to the development of local IP relevant to industry needs,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Animation Industry Association, Daryl Wilson, emphasized that Indonesia’s animation industry holds great potential, driven by increasing global demand, strong local IP, and the dominance of young talent.

“We need to strengthen the ecosystem so it is not only service-based but also capable of producing original IP. Synergy between government, academia, and industry is key for Indonesian works to compete globally,” he explained.
This visit reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to fostering local heroes who can go national, become national champions, and eventually go global, while also creating quality employment opportunities.
