Jakarta, July 3, 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy and France are preparing to establish a strategic collaboration in the film industry, covering co-production, talent exchange, and creative training. This initiative was further reinforced during a meeting between the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, and the delegation of the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 3, 2025.

“As part of our strategic efforts to encourage cross-country partnerships and investment in the creative economy sector, we welcome the opportunity to explore this collaboration,” said Minister Teuku Riefky.
The meeting signifies the commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic cooperation in the film industry, serving as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy and France’s Ministry of Culture.
Previously, in late May 2025, the Governments of Indonesia and France had discussed concrete steps to implement the MoU in the creative economy sector.

Minister Teuku Riefky expressed his appreciation for CNC and the French Embassy’s interest in further strengthening cultural and creative ties with Indonesia. He emphasized that international partnerships are crucial for driving the growth of Indonesia’s film industry and opening wider access to global markets for local creative works.
The Centre National du Cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) is a public administrative institution established in 1946 and restructured in 2009. Operating under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture, CNC is responsible for supporting the production and promotion of cinematic and audiovisual arts in France.

The meeting also forms part of preparations for the Indonesian Government’s official visit to France in July, which will include attending Bastille Day celebrations, a bilateral meeting with the French Minister of Culture, and a visit to one of Europe’s leading film schools.
Ambassador Fabien Penone reaffirmed his commitment to building a long-term partnership based on mutual trust, co-financing, and a focus on tangible projects that bring direct benefits to creative industry talents in both countries.
“All cultural institutions will be participating in Bastille Day celebrations, making it a great opportunity for interaction. I hope this will evolve into a long-term partnership, not just a temporary initiative,” said Penone.

We believe Indonesia has immense potential to become a creative powerhouse in Southeast Asia,” Bruel said.
Through this partnership, the Ministry of Creative Economy expects to create synergy as a concrete implementation of the hexahelix approach. The Ministry also hopes the collaboration will foster the development of a globally competitive creative economy ecosystem.
Also present at the meeting were Cultural Counsellor and Director of Institut Français Indonesia (IFI), Jules Irrmann; Cultural Cooperation Attaché at IFI, Charlotte Esnou; IFI Audiovisual Cooperation Coordinator, Gaspard Perelman; and Political Counsellor at the French Embassy, Martin Albert.
