Mataram, July 26, 2025 — Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya expressed strong support for the growth of the marching band ecosystem as part of the performing arts subsector during the 8th National Recreational Sports Festival (FORNAS VIII 2025) at the University of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, July 26, 2025. “The marching band ecosystem is both comprehensive and full of potential. It encompasses instrument makers, trainers, choreographers, costume designers, and talented young performers—all interconnected,” said the Minister while attending the marching band competition at the festival.

He emphasized the importance of fostering marching bands professionally across regions, noting that their role extends beyond festivals to include cultural events and regional pride celebrations.Dok. Biro Komunikasi Kementerian Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Ekonomi Kreatif.

“This activity not only nurtures the younger generation but also elevates the quality of performing arts at both local and national levels,” the Minister added.

The Minister also highlighted that the Ministry of Creative Economy, established nine months ago, oversees 17 subsectors grouped into four clusters: culture-based, design, digital technology, and media. Performing arts, including marching bands, fall under the culture-based cluster that receives special attention. He further stressed the need for collaboration between government institutions and community organizations.Dok. Biro Komunikasi Kementerian Ekonomi Kreatif/Badan Ekonomi Kreatif.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to serve as a partner in strengthening this subsector. Despite limitations, we remain committed to supporting the development of the marching band ecosystem across the country,” he affirmed.

The competition was organized by the Indonesian Drum Corps Association (IDCA), a member of the Indonesian Recreational Sports Committee (KORMI), and involved participants from 10 provinces: Aceh, West Nusa Tenggara, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, Riau Islands, North Sulawesi, and North Kalimantan, with eight competition categories.Dok. It is hoped that through the momentum of FORNAS VIII, marching bands can continue to grow as an integral part of the national creative economy, delivering tangible benefits for artists, MSMEs, and the wider community.

Also attending the event were Haridoyo, Chairman of the Central IDCA, and Abdul Hadi Wijaya, Chairman of West Java IDCA.
