Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya Appreciates Layar Digi’s Collaboration with Mini Markets, Launching Indonesia’s First Micro Cinema

Tangerang, 5 March, 2026 – The Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, appreciated the collaboration between Layar Digi and minimarkets in bringing alternative screen innovations through micro cinemas to various regions. This initiative is important for expanding the distribution access of national films.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, delivered remarks during the inauguration of the Layar Digi Micro Cinema at Alfamart Agricola, Gading Serpong, Tangerang, on Thursday (March 5, 2026).

According to the Minister, the presence of the micro cinema concept not only broadens public access to Indonesian films but also strengthens the national film ecosystem.

“ Today, we are witnessing a new breakthrough. The presence of micro cinemas like Layar Digi provides a solution to expand the market access and distribution of national films. This momentum is especially timely as film production increases and public interest in watching Indonesian films grows,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya during the inauguration of the Layar Digi Micro Cinema at Alfamart Agricola, Gading Serpong, Tangerang, on Thursday (March 5).

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya affirmed that Indonesia’s film ecosystem holds tremendous potential, both in terms of production and audience interest. However, film distribution remains a key challenge that needs to be addressed.

“ If we observe, Indonesian film production has already developed significantly. Around 176 films are produced each year, and the number of national film viewers reached over 80 million last year. This means that the supply and demand already exist; the real issue lies in distribution,” explained Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya.

Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya also stated that currently only about 20 percent of regencies or cities in Indonesia have access to cinemas. Given this situation, innovative cinema models such as Layar Digi are considered to have significant potential to reach areas that do not yet have cinemas.

Layar Digi is a company introducing a new concept called Micro Cinema by utilizing the second floor of Alfamart outlets as mini cinemas. Featuring a modern design, comfortable seating, and high-quality screen and sound technology, this innovation is ready to bring a movie-watching experience closer to the public.

The Alfamart Agricola minimarket serves as the pilot project outlet, beginning its transformation to offer a new shared space, a fun gathering place, and a comfortable interaction platform to simultaneously support creative works and Indonesian films.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Layar Digi, Rahayu Saraswati, stated that the idea of introducing micro cinemas stems from a long-held dream to bring the movie-watching experience to small towns and villages. She emphasized that the presence of Layar Digi not only provides entertainment for the public but also opens new distribution channels for filmmakers and stakeholders in the national film industry.

“ The concept of bringing Layar Digi to villages or small towns has actually been a long-standing dream that was previously on hold. Through Layar Digi, we aim to provide more equitable access to film viewing while also supporting filmmakers so that their works can be enjoyed more widely by the public,” said Rahayu Saraswati.

In addition to expanding access to entertainment, this initiative is also expected to stimulate the growth of the creative economy in regions, create new job opportunities, and strengthen the national film ecosystem from upstream to downstream.

In the future, the Layar Digi micro cinema concept is planned to be expanded to various regions across Indonesia by utilizing strategic locations close to communities. This initiative is expected to serve as a solution for film distribution, strengthen the position of Indonesian films as hosts in their own country, and enhance competitiveness in the global market.
