Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Meets DPD RI Senators, Emphasizes the Importance of Growing the Creative Economy from the Regions

Jakarta, April 17, 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya welcomed a visit from several members of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) at the Gedung Film Pesona Indonesia, Jakarta, on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The senators in attendance included Azhari Cage (Aceh), Alfiansyah Bustami Komeng (West Java), Achmad Azran (Jakarta), Bustomi Zainudin (Lampung), Bisri As Shiddiq (Maluku), and Adib Fuad (South Papua).

During the meeting, Minister Teuku Riefky expressed his appreciation for the presence of the DPD RI and emphasized their crucial role in strengthening Indonesia’s creative economy by encouraging the establishment of Creative Economy Offices across various regions, tailored to the capacity and potential of each area.

“We hope our colleagues from the DPD RI can empower their respective regions and collaborate with local governments. We strongly encourage that in forming organizational structures under the current regional leadership, there is room for the creative economy – whether by integrating it into existing departments or establishing a dedicated office,” said Minister Teuku Riefky.

According to data compiled by the Ministry of Creative Economy, only 8 out of 38 provinces currently have a creative economy office at the provincial level (OPD level 1). At the district/city level (OPD level 2), only 13 out of 416 regencies and 5 out of 98 cities have implemented a creative economy nomenclature. This is why Minister Teuku Riefky is urging regions to establish Creative Economy Offices.

“We have signed a Joint Decree (SKB) between the Minister of Creative Economy and the Minister of Home Affairs regarding the guidelines and establishment of regional Creative Economy Offices. We need the help of our colleagues in the DPD to further disseminate information about this OPD nomenclature. This is an important step to strengthen the creative economy from the grassroots,” Minister Teuku Riefky explained.

The Minister further elaborated on various local intellectual properties (IPs) that have collaborated with the ministry, emphasizing that each policy or support initiative impacts local economic development, creating a multiplier effect.

“We must orchestrate efforts together to align local IPs with the potential of each region. The collaboration we expect with the DPD RI going forward includes mainstreaming the creative economy in regional development, strengthening regional creative economy institutions, and supporting collaborative studies on regional creative economy development. We are ready to assist in all of these efforts,” he stressed.

Senator Azhari Cage noted that the Minister’s presentation deepened their understanding of the urgency of developing the creative economy for regional growth.

“The potential of the creative economy presented by the Minister was extraordinary. It opened our minds and motivated us to do more to implement this in each of our regions,” Azhari said.

West Java Senator Alfiansyah Komeng, who is also the former Chair of the Indonesian Comedy Artists Association (PASKI), added the importance of reviving creative spaces, particularly for performing arts subsectors at the regional level.

“When I was young, every regency or city had an art hall where we could watch performances for free every weekend. I hope the Ministry of Creative Economy can help revive these art halls across the regions,” Komeng expressed.

Meanwhile, Eastern Indonesian Senator Bisri As Siddiq shared aspirations based on his region’s experience.

“The creative economy is the future of Indonesia, and we must work on it together. We can create competitions to spark creativity so that each region can showcase its local products, such as Tanimbar Weaving from Maluku. We could also launch cultural campaigns through historical film festivals and local music appreciation events,” he added.

Minister Teuku Riefky was accompanied by Deputy for Creative Economy Strategic Development Cecep Rukendi, Special Staff for Strategic and Inter-Agency Affairs Rian Syaf, Director of Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations Radi Manggala, and Director of Infrastructure Facilitation Fahmy Akmal.
