Jakarta, June 25, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, joined Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in discussing ways to optimize the role of airports in supporting the growth of regional creative economies. Airport ecosystems are viewed as strategic platforms for expanding the promotion of local intellectual property (IP) and Indonesia’s creative products.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya discussed the optimization of airports’ role in supporting the growth of regional creative economies during a coordination meeting at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Kemenko IPK) in Jakarta on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
"The objective of this meeting is to strengthen airport ecosystem governance through regulations and cross-sector collaboration. From there, we aim to enhance competitiveness, as competitiveness is a key indicator of airport performance and service quality," said Coordinating Minister AHY during the coordination meeting held at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development on Thursday (June 25).
Meanwhile, Minister Teuku Riefky emphasized that airports are more than transportation hubs; they serve as gateways that introduce Indonesia’s identity, creativity, and flagship products to the global community.
"Airports should become showcases that highlight Indonesia’s intellectual property, creative products, and local talents to the world," he said.
One of the Ministry’s key priorities is to curate and expand the activation and utilization of local IP across Indonesia’s major airports. This effort is being carried out through cross-sector collaboration, ranging from character licensing for merchandise and creative product development with SMEs to the placement of creative works in public airport facilities.

Furthermore, the Ministry is encouraging creative activations that enhance passenger experiences, including art exhibitions, photography galleries, music performances, creative installations, bazaars, and international events integrated with regional creative economy promotion.
"We want to create more memorable travel experiences through the creative economy. The presence of creative works and events at airports can strengthen Indonesia’s image while opening wider market opportunities for creative economy players," the Minister said.
The development of airport-based creative economy initiatives is also being supported through a strategic partnership with InJourney. The collaboration includes the utilization of InJourney’s facilities and infrastructure as marketing spaces for creative products, the exchange of data and IP trend insights, and support for various Ministry programs.
One of the partnership’s implementations is the development of a Game Station at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, featuring games developed by Indonesian creators. The initiative serves as a promotional platform for local game developers while providing interactive entertainment for passengers.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Creative Economy will continue strengthening collaboration among ministries, government agencies, regional governments, state-owned enterprises, and creative industry stakeholders to position airports as sustainable drivers of creative economic growth.
Through the promotion of local IP, the organization of creative activities, and cross-sector partnerships, the Ministry remains optimistic that the creative economy sector will generate greater added value for both national and regional economies.
