Minister of Creative Economy’s Visit to Singhasari SEZ: Driving a World-Class Creative Ecosystem

Malang, April 29, 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, visited the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as a concrete step to implement the outcomes of previous discussions on the potential development of the creative economy.

The development of the creative economy in Indonesia plays a crucial role in enhancing the nation’s competitiveness in the global era. The Singhasari SEZ holds a strategic role in advancing Indonesia’s creative economy.

“The Singhasari SEZ serves as a key catalyst in driving the growth of the national creative economy. Innovation, investment, and cross-sector collaboration within the SEZ are vital foundations for nurturing creative talents and products with global competitiveness,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky also emphasized that the Singhasari SEZ has shown significant progress in building a creative ecosystem that supports the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy through a range of strategic initiatives that have already been implemented with positive impacts on society.

Several strategic initiatives underway at the Singhasari SEZ include:

  • King’s College London – Master’s Program in Digital Economy: The Singhasari SEZ hosts this international postgraduate program, opening access to world-class education in the digital economy.

  • Hellomotion High School Malang: The first creative high school in Indonesia focused on the creative industry, technology, and innovation, with a mission to produce globally competitive young talents.

  • Cyber Defence Academy: A collaborative program between India and Indonesia focused on developing cybersecurity expertise to address global digital challenges.

  • SMK 2 Singhasari: A vocational school specializing in animation and other creative industries, where students actively produce innovative works.

These programs provide substantial benefits to society, particularly in enhancing skills and knowledge in the digital economy and cybersecurity. They also serve as tangible examples of cross-sector collaboration in creating quality job opportunities for younger generations.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky further stressed that the Singhasari SEZ has the potential to become a concrete platform for realizing the Asta Cita Creative Economy agenda. “With the integrated model offered by the Creative Complex Singhasari, we can accelerate the establishment of a structured, innovative, and globally oriented national creative ecosystem,” said the Minister.

Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, expressed full support for the Singhasari SEZ, affirming that its presence strengthens the province’s position as a central hub for the development of future talents.

With regulatory support, investment promotion, creative product marketing, and training provided by the Ministry of Creative Economy, the Singhasari SEZ is expected to become a platform for developing a structured, innovative, and globally oriented creative economy. The aim is to drive the creative economy as a new engine of national economic growth starting from the regions.

Meanwhile, CEO of the Singhasari SEZ, David Santoso, stated that the organization is committed to establishing the SEZ as a crucible for global talents by fostering an innovative ecosystem that advances research, production, education, and commercialization.
