Jakarta, 9 September 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are synergizing to strengthen the research and innovation foundation to accelerate the growth of the creative economy as Indonesia’s new economic engine.
Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, menerima audiensi Kepala BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko dan jajarannya di Kantor Kementerian Ekraf, Jakarta, Selasa (09/09/2025).
This strategic collaboration focuses on enhancing research and innovation synergy to map the potential of creative economy subsectors, now regarded as a “new mining” resource for the national economy.
“We must map the potential of the creative economy. This is Indonesia’s new mining: the creative economy,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya while receiving an audience with BRIN Chief Laksana Tri Handoko and his team at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Tuesday, 9 September 2025.
Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky emphasized that collaboration with BRIN aims to strengthen a research-based creative economy ecosystem as a new engine of national economic growth. Research serves as the foundation to support creative economy growth from the regions and address challenges across the 17 creative economy subsectors, particularly the seven priority subsectors.
“Through research-based mapping and studies, we can ensure that the creative economy subsectors grow as a new engine of national economic growth starting from the regions. The data and innovations produced will be synergized with associations, communities, and regional governments, so that they can be continuously updated and provide direct benefits to the creative economy ecosystem,” Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky explained.

Moreover, the cooperation between the Ministry of Creative Economy and BRIN includes utilizing research facilities to enhance subsector competitiveness, strengthening intellectual property protection and commercialization, and developing human resource competencies. These efforts are expected not only to reinforce the Ministry of Creative Economy as an institution but also to enhance the capacity of the creative economy ecosystem across Indonesia.
BRIN Chief Laksana Tri Handoko welcomed the initiative and confirmed the agency’s readiness to support the 2025 creative economy research roadmap.
“In many countries, technology-based creative economy development spans a long period. Meanwhile, culture-based creative economy is also essential, and we are ready to serve as an enabler, bridging creative economy subsectors with BRIN’s research results,” he stated.
Handoko further emphasized that BRIN is focusing on increasing the economic value of agricultural products through derivative research, which he considers highly relevant for joint management with the Ministry of Creative Economy.
“We believe that agricultural research outcomes can be further developed by the creative economy ecosystem to create additional economic value,” he added.
The Ministry of Creative Economy views this collaboration with BRIN as strengthening the implementation of Asta Ekraf, which covers data, talent, infrastructure, funding, and markets. The program aims to increase the competitiveness of priority subsectors, ranging from games, applications, fashion, craft, music, to performing arts.
