Jakarta, 14 November 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency applauds the success of the Indonesian wayang animation, Desa Timun, which once again captured global attention by participating in two film festivals in Turkey and Japan. The film, produced by Aniwayang Studio, reflects the growing contribution of creative economy practitioners on the international stage.

Desa Timun took part in the Universal Kids Film Festival in Istanbul, Turkey (24–29 October 2025) and the Kineko International Film Festival in Japan (1–3 November 2025). The Ministry of Creative Economy views this achievement as proof that Indonesia’s culturally-based intellectual property (IP) can compete and resonate with a global audience.
“The success of Desa Timun demonstrates that Indonesian children’s animation can match international quality. We highly appreciate the efforts of creators who can transform local intellectual property into content that is relevant and appealing to global audiences. We are committed to strengthening support so that more Indonesian IP can advance and go international,” said Deputy for Media Creativity of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Agustini Rahayu, on Friday, 14 November 2025.
The presence of Desa Timun at these two prestigious festivals simultaneously reflects the increasing contribution of innovative and adaptive creative economy practitioners in boosting creative product exports and opening investment opportunities—two key aspects of the Ministry of Creative Economy’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Meanwhile, Founder and Director of Aniwayang Studio, Daud Nugraha, emphasized that consecutive appearances in Turkey and Japan represent an important momentum for reinforcing cultural identity in Indonesian animation.
“We aim to bring Indonesian characters and values into global creative spaces through animation. Participation in these two major festivals opens pathways for international collaboration while expanding the reach of Desa Timun’s creativity,” said Daud.
At the 14th Universal Kids Film Festival, Desa Timun was selected for the official selection and screened at Yildiz Technical University School in front of students and educators. The program included the screening of the animation Bola, an introduction to Aniwayang as a visual wayang-based medium, a dalang experience session, and a paper wayang workshop.
In Japan, Desa Timun participated in the Kineko International Film Festival, one of Asia’s largest children’s film festivals. Through an exclusive merchandise booth, wayang kulit coloring workshops, and meet-and-greet sessions with the character Cili, Desa Timun attracted significant attention from international visitors.

This international exposure opens greater opportunities for cross-country collaboration, market expansion, and growth in animation subsector exports.
Desa Timun is expected to inspire Indonesian creative economy practitioners to confidently develop their works, seize opportunities to expand market reach, and build stronger global networks.
