The Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno, officially inaugurated the festival at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar, who also serves as Chair of the National Lunar New Year Committee, was present to show her support.

“This event is part of the Harmoni Imlek Nusantara series, where the central consolidation is in Jakarta, but people have also been given many options to celebrate Lunar New Year in various cities such as Solo, Palembang, Singkawang, and others. There are so many Lunar New Year events this year, and creative economy players can stay tuned to the Instagram account @ImlekFestival,” said Deputy Minister Irene at the Bundaran HI area on Friday, February 13, 2026.

An inclusive Indonesia in its diversity ensures that the Lunar New Year celebration will be held festively, enlivening public spaces. Beyond being a celebration, this momentum is also able to promote Jakarta as a city full of harmony, with an inclusive creative economy and global culture, thereby strengthening unity among citizens.

“From February 22 to March 1, 2026, there will be a Lunar New Year-themed bazaar along with communal iftar during the Ramadan period. The Ministry of Creative Economy will certainly foster collaborations that showcase local brands so that every series of events can be enjoyed by all segments of society,” added Deputy Minister Irene, who was accompanied by Special Staff to the Minister for Strengthening the Creative Economy Ecosystem and Data, Jago Anggara.

The Lunar New Year agenda in Jakarta is becoming increasingly vibrant with the presentation of various events, including the Lunar New Year Decoration Competition, the Chinatown Festival at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Harmoni Jakarta at Blok M Hub, Semarak Imlek at Monas and Lapangan Banteng, the Jakarta Light Festival in Kota Tua, Temple Festivals, and Cap Go Meh celebrations in Glodok Chinatown. Each festivity reflects a unique cultural acculturation.

“Jakarta today is starting something new with the Jakarta Lunar New Year Festival 2026 taking place in various locations across the city. This event is held to realize Jakarta as an inclusive city and a global city for everyone. Moreover, the Chinese Indonesian community has made extraordinary contributions to Betawi traditions, making cultural acculturation in Jakarta rich in traditions and heritage,” said Pramono Anung.

Gates, lanterns, and plum blossom trees also adorn the “Harmony Lantern Walk,” allowing visitors to capture iconic Chinese New Year ornaments.

“This event is made possible through the collaboration of all parties, including the Central Government, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, regionally owned enterprises, and several private sector stakeholders participating in welcoming Lunar New Year. Hopefully, all Jakarta residents can go through the Year of the Fire Horse with good fortune, comfort, safety, happiness, and most importantly, the courage to do better for their city,” continued Pramono Anung.
