The term Cap Go Meh refers to the fifteenth day or night after Lunar New Year. In Jakarta, the Cap Go Meh celebration is particularly special as it brings to life cultures that coexist and continue to evolve together. With the theme “Cahaya Keberagaman” in Glodok, Cap Go Meh marked the closing of the Lunar New Year festivities, serving as a moment to share hopes and positive energy as the community moves forward together.
“The harmonious life of diversity in Jakarta today is very strong. This year’s Lunar New Year and Cap Go Meh celebrations serve as proof that Jakarta is a shared home that upholds tolerance. The Chinese Indonesian community has also made extraordinary contributions to Jakarta. Therefore, we will build a Peranakan Chinese Museum as a symbol of Jakarta’s appreciation for the history and role of all its citizens,” said Pramono Anung.
