Yogyakarta, 14 April, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, reviewed the refinement of the Chattra—an umbrella-shaped crown to be installed at the top of the Main Stupa of Borobudur Temple. The Chattra is being crafted at Studio Patung Yusman as part of the government’s commitment to ensuring the involvement of creative economy actors in the fine arts subsector in a national strategic project rooted in historical and spiritual values.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, reviewed the refinement of the Chattra—an umbrella-shaped crown to be installed at the top of the Main Stupa of Borobudur Temple—at Studio Patung Yusman, Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
“Studio Patung Yusman is not merely a place for producing artworks, but a creative laboratory that preserves the dignity of the nation’s history. The presence of the Borobudur Chattra currently being crafted here symbolizes the synergy between the expertise of local maestros and efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural identity on the global stage,” said the Deputy Minister on Tuesday (14/4).
Studio Patung Yusman was selected as the production site due to its proven track record in producing monumental works on a national scale. The Chattra project has received special attention from the Ministry as it serves as a complementary element to the grandeur of Borobudur Temple, functioning not only aesthetically but also carrying profound philosophical value for the religious tourism and creative economy ecosystem.

“We see that the crafting of this Chattra requires an extraordinary level of precision and detail. This demonstrates that our creative human resources, particularly in the field of sculpture, meet international quality standards,” she added.
On this occasion, Yusman, an artist and founder of Studio Patung Yusman, provided a technical explanation regarding the materials and production process of the Chattra to ensure alignment with archaeological findings while maintaining strong durability. As an artist with decades of experience, Yusman welcomed the Ministry’s support for the sustainability of art studios that are able to absorb talented local labor in the Yogyakarta region.

“The presence of the Ministry of Creative Economy gives us, as artists, greater confidence. The crafting of this Chattra is a great mandate for our studio, and support from the Ministry is crucial to ensure that the sculpture ecosystem remains alive and continues to nurture new generations of artists,” said Yusman during the studio visit.
The completion of the Chattra is expected to strengthen the appeal of Borobudur while also generating economic impact for local creative actors, reflecting the Ministry’s focus on strengthening creative economy infrastructure based on local wisdom through synergy with art maestros to inspire the younger generation.

During this visit, the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Special Staff to the Minister for Strengthening the Creative Economy Ecosystem and Data, Jago Anggara, as well as Expert Staff for Regulation and Institutional Affairs, Dahana Esa Putera.
