Jakarta, 27 May 2025 – The launch of the Indonesia Central Cloud Region initiated by Microsoft marks an important step in supporting new technologies and enhancing creative economy talents in Indonesia. The Indonesia Central Cloud Region is expected to serve as a local data hub that drives digital economic growth, technological skill development, and cross-sector collaboration.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, appreciated the establishment of the Indonesia Central Cloud Region by Microsoft, which can also contribute to creating more opportunities for the creative economy sector in the digital era.
“As part of our commitment to adapting to new technologies that enable transfer of knowledge to creative economy players, the Ministry of Creative Economy supports the Indonesia Central Cloud Region by Microsoft as a local data hub to strengthen the capacity of digital talents,” said Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky, during the launching event at Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta, Tuesday, 27 May 2025.
Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, emphasized that the launch of Indonesia’s first Central Cloud Region is an effort to strengthen the nation’s digital ecosystem.

“This Cloud Region infrastructure will increase our productivity, including fostering the creative economy in Indonesia. The advancement of technology based on this data center is a highly valuable asset that must be managed properly and is expected to create many quality job opportunities through digital skill enhancement,” said Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.
Minister Teuku Riefky further stated that the use of systematic new technologies in the digital era will accelerate the creative economy ecosystem from conventional practices to fully digital approaches.
“The presence of technology always opens new opportunities, shifting what was once manual into digital. Microsoft’s new technology will help build a globally competitive creative economy ecosystem,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid highlighted the importance of government efforts to attract global partnerships and accelerate the development of digital talents to drive national economic growth.
“The presence of the Indonesian Central Cloud Region reflects two important things. First, the trust in the government’s digital policy direction, which is increasingly consistent, responsive, and open to global collaboration. Second, Indonesia is seen as ready to manage technology with strong digital talent and an inclusive, secure, and sustainable digital ecosystem,” said Meutya Hafid.
Microsoft’s goal in building and operating its data center in Indonesia is to support data sovereignty that ensures local data storage, while also fostering digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.
“Microsoft has invested USD 1.7 billion in Indonesia as a long-term commitment to the country’s digital future. In addition, Microsoft is also ready to build AI and cloud computing infrastructure by providing digital training opportunities for 840,000 Indonesians,” said Dharma Simorangkir, President Director of Microsoft Indonesia.

The event was also attended by several stakeholders, including Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu; Head of the Center for Information Systems and Technology of the Ministry of Finance, Mochamad Ali Hanafiah; Microsoft Executive Vice President Scott Guthrie; President Asia Pacific Microsoft, Andrea Della Mattea; and Head of Microsoft ASEAN Government Affairs Team, Maciej Surowiec.
