Jakarta, January 23, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar expressed appreciation for The Pokémon Company, which has inspired the growth of local intellectual property (IP). This initiative greatly benefits the creative economy industry.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene made this statement during the press conference "Future Plans for Indonesia 2025" at the Grand Ballroom of Fairmont Jakarta on Thursday, January 23, 2025. She emphasized that the partnership between The Pokémon Company and all involved parties should further connect Indonesian culture with global IPs.
"There is so much we can learn from The Pokémon Company. It brings a sense of pride to creative economy pioneers, allowing them to realize the significance of intellectual property rights (IPR). Pokémon’s presence in Indonesia holds significant market potential, particularly in events and games that engage local communities," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.
She also highlighted various strategies to engage Pokémon fans in Indonesia, including interactive online competitions, exclusive fan meetups, and content availability that ensures Indonesian Pokémon fans stay updated with the latest trends. During the press conference, Pokémon characters appeared wearing batik-patterned outfits.

Additionally, several new initiatives were launched, such as the new Pokémon Mezastar arcade machine, the release of the song “Makna Dunia” for animation as part of the second Pikachu Jet collaboration with Garuda Indonesia, Pokémon Day in partnership with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), and Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey 2025.
"Collaboration with local IPs to develop the Pokémon ecosystem can help reach local communities, encouraging them to start playing Pokémon board games together and participate in special competitions. The creative economy can also be optimized by increasing access to Pokémon merchandise across Indonesia. Merchandise is a part of IP. We will create a catalog (database) of creative economy products, such as appealing merchandise, to broaden sales opportunities," stated Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene, accompanied by the Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Muhammad Neil El Himam.

The Pokémon Company also officially announced new projects in Indonesia through partnerships in various fields such as sports, aviation, and entertainment, ensuring that Pokémon can be enjoyed by the public in exciting ways. These projects aim to provide unique experiences for people of all ages, tailored to Indonesia’s culture and lifestyle.
"One example is Garuda Indonesia, which has become a partner of both the Ministry of Creative Economy and The Pokémon Company. The airline continues to implement sustainable initiatives to add value for passengers, particularly by offering a distinct flight experience. As the nation’s flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia strives to promote Indonesia’s rich and diverse tourism to the world through strategic partnerships across various industries, including the creative economy sector," said Ade R. Susardi, Commercial Director of Garuda Indonesia, during the same event.
