Ministry of Creative Economy Encourages Expansion of Creative Product Markets at World Expo 2025 Osaka

Jakarta, February 13, 2025 – Indonesia will participate in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, the world's largest quinquennial event, featuring around 158 countries over six months. The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency views this event as a strategic opportunity to expand the market for Indonesian creative products, as well as to boost investment and international cooperation.

In preparation for Indonesia's participation, the National Development Planning Ministry (PPN)/Bappenas held a Kick-Off Meeting on Thursday, February 13, 2025, under the theme "Optimizing Trade, Investment, and International Cooperation Opportunities through World Expo 2025 Osaka."

Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudi, reaffirmed the government's commitment to leveraging this momentum. "This expo takes place amid economic and global challenges. However, the President's directive is clear—we must maximize its potential for national interests. I hope Indonesia's participation will be well-executed," he stated.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, emphasized the importance of showcasing high-quality local products that are competitive in the global market. "We must keep moving forward and unite to present good quality products. Indonesia’s local products will be introduced for collaboration with international markets," Irene explained.

She also stressed the importance of post-event planning to ensure Indonesia’s participation in World Expo 2025 has a lasting impact. "We will prepare export-ready creative products with thorough planning," she added.

Beyond exhibiting creative products, Irene also plans to visit potential companies in Japan to explore collaboration and business matching opportunities. One of the key focus sectors is the gaming industry, which has significant potential in the Japanese market.

"Our games have won awards at the Tokyo Game Show. We will strengthen government support to expand the market in Japan," she said.

Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry, Nurul Ichwan, highlighted the potential for cultural and creative economic cooperation between Indonesia and Japan.

"Indonesia and Japan share similarities in pop culture, such as anime and custom design. By leveraging digitalization, we can showcase Indonesia’s creativity on a global scale," said Nurul.

He emphasized that through the Ministry of Creative Economy, Indonesia aims to highlight its excellence in the creative economy, demonstrating to the world that Indonesia is not only renowned for its tourism and natural beauty but also for the creativity of its younger generation.

The Kick-Off Meeting was also attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Masaki Yasushi; Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudi; and Deputy Minister of PPN/Bappenas, Febrian Alphyanto Rudyard.

The panel discussion featured several key speakers, including Dindin Wahyudin from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Nurul Ichwan, Deputy for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/BKPM; Tri Supondy, Director General of Resilience, Regional, and International Industrial Access at the Ministry of Industry; Fajarini Pundodewi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade; Rizki Handayani, Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism; and Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
