Jakarta, 16 December 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya received an audience with the Regent of North Penajam Paser (PPU) Mudyat Noor to discuss strategies for developing the creative economy as a leading sector in the region partnering the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN). The meeting, held at La Moringa, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, emphasized the importance of the creative economy as a driver of sustainable local economic growth.

The Minister of Creative Economy stated that the creative economy has significant potential to improve the welfare of local communities. The presence of the Ministry of Creative Economy is directed toward ensuring that creative economy players in the regions can move up the value chain through the strengthening of leading subsectors.
“We see that the creative economy is highly capable of becoming an opportunity for regional development. What remains is how we curate which sectors need to be strengthened so they can become icons of PPU Regency, attract attention, and serve as examples for other regions in developing their respective strengths,” explained the Minister of Creative Economy.

PPU Regency is a strategic area with a total area of approximately 243,292 hectares. It directly borders the IKN area, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Balikpapan City, and the Makassar Strait, making it an important node in regional development.
In the first semester of 2025, the population of PPU was recorded at approximately 203,661 people and is projected to continue increasing in line with the acceleration of IKN development. Under national policy, PPU is designated as part of the IKN Economic Superhub Area, with development focused on the industrial, food, fisheries, tourism, and creative economy sectors based on local potential.

Regent of PPU Mudyat Noor conveyed that the audience discussed various opportunities for creative economy development, particularly PPU’s role as a supporting region for IKN.
“We are ready to collaborate, from film subsectors to regional creative products, so that the creative economy in Penajam can truly progress and gain recognition at the global level,” he said.

This synergy between the central and regional governments is expected to strengthen the position of the creative economy as a strategic sector supporting the sustainable development of the IKN area. The development of regional creative identity is also considered important to create economic added value while enhancing local competitiveness.
The audience was also attended by the First Deputy Chair of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of PPU Regency Syahrudin M. Noor, Acting Head of the Tourism Office Rusli, Head of the Division of Innovation, Technology, and Regulatory Assessment at Bapelitbang Arif Afandi, as well as the Chair and members of the PPU Regency Creative Economy Committee.

On the occasion, the Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy Cecep Rukendi and Director of Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations Radi Manggala.
