Jakarta, May 26, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, discussed opportunities for creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and Berlin during an audience with AsiaBerlin. The discussion covered talent exchange programs, strengthening startup networks, and expanding international market access for Indonesian creative talents.

“International collaboration must deliver tangible benefits for Indonesia’s creative economy players, whether through market access, global networks, or cross-border collaboration opportunities. We want Indonesian talents to have greater opportunities to participate in international ecosystems,” said the Deputy Minister during the audience held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Tuesday (26/5).
During the meeting, AsiaBerlin presented several programs with potential for collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy, including Indonesia’s participation in the AsiaBerlin Summit 2026, the development of Jakarta–Berlin creative activations, and opportunities for Indonesian creators to engage in innovation forums and creative networks across Europe. The Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of strengthening Indonesia’s position within the global creative ecosystem through international collaboration.
“We want to demonstrate that Indonesia not only possesses creative products but also the capacity to build influence through culture, innovation, and talent. Cross-country collaboration is essential to ensure that Indonesian creative works become increasingly connected to global ecosystems and achieve stronger competitiveness,” said the Deputy Minister.

In addition, the Ministry of Creative Economy introduced several creative economy internationalization programs currently being prepared, including a creative activation initiative in Singapore involving the music, fashion, design, architecture, and hospitality subsectors. The program is designed to expand the exposure of local Intellectual Property (IP) while opening market access and international networking opportunities for Indonesia’s creative economy players.
During the discussion, both parties also explored opportunities to strengthen the promotion of Indonesian creative products through collaborative approaches that connect culture, technology, and creative experiences, enabling Indonesian creative works to become more relevant in global markets.
AsiaBerlin also introduced the Urban Green Goods Design Competition under the theme “Together for Tomorrow: Bridging Cities, Shaping Futures,” which invites designers and creators to develop works based on urban innovation and sustainability. The competition forms part of efforts to strengthen creative relations between Jakarta and Berlin while creating opportunities for cross-border design collaboration.
Daniel Tumewu, CEO and Co-Founder of Hi Incubator as well as AsiaBerlin Ambassador, explained that Berlin is currently emerging as one of Europe’s leading creative and startup ecosystem hubs, open to the exchange of ideas, cultures, and innovations from around the world.

“Jakarta holds a strategic position in its relationship with Berlin, including through its active sister-city partnership. We see tremendous potential for Indonesia to further connect with Berlin’s creative, startup, and innovation ecosystems,” said Daniel Tumewu.
This audience opened opportunities for follow-up collaboration between Indonesia and Berlin through creative talent exchange programs, international forums, and cross-ecosystem promotional initiatives involving creative talents and industry players from both countries.
The Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed its commitment to continuously expanding international cooperation that contributes to strengthening capabilities, market access, and the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy players.
