“The Ministry of Creative Economy will continue to expand alternative cinema initiatives to other potential regions. This effort reflects our commitment to realizing the vision of the creative economy as a sustainable new engine of national growth, competitive, and rooted in regional collaboration,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya.
The Sinema Rakyat initiative exemplifies a hexahelix synergy approach, providing inclusive viewing spaces accessible to all. It aims to expand public access to quality film content while enhancing screen distribution across Indonesia. Deputy for Media Creativity Agustini Rahayu emphasized the importance of this initiative as part of regional-based creative economy development.
“Sinema Rakyat demonstrates how the creative economy can drive economic growth based on local potential. By providing more equitable screen access, communities are not only audiences but also active participants in an ecosystem that stimulates regional creative economy circulation,” stated Deputy Agustini Rahayu.

During the Sinema Rakyat screenings, two films featuring local narratives with socially relevant and inspiring messages were showcased. On the first day, Tegar (produced by Aksa Bumi Langit, directed by Anggi Frisca) highlighted inclusion and equality, celebrating the spirit of self-empowerment.
The second day featured Kaka Boss (produced by Imajinari Pictures, debut director Arie Kriting), a film exploring the journey of overcoming social stigma through comedy while pursuing personal dreams and creative achievements.
In addition to outdoor film screenings, Mawatu Labuan Bajo organized a bazaar and music competitions involving micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local communities. The festival format ensures that Indonesian films serve as a medium for education and regional creative economy empowerment.

Alternative cinemas are envisioned as spaces that open new economic opportunities and support the sustainability of national filmmaking, which is an integral part of the creative economy as a new engine of growth starting from the regions.
