Ministry of Creative Economy Explores Development of Digital Creative Economy Ecosystem with Telkomsel

Jakarta, January 13, 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency of Indonesia is opening opportunities for collaboration with Telkomsel to develop the digital creative economy ecosystem, aiming to drive the sector as the new engine of growth. This initiative was conveyed by the Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, during a meeting with Telkomsel at the Sapta Pesona Building on Monday, January 13, 2025.

In his remarks, Minister of Creative Economy Riefky expressed hope that Telkomsel would become an integral part of the creative economy's hexahelix framework to actively contribute to the development of the creative industry.

"Our approach through the hexahelix allows close collaboration with academia, businesses, communities, financial institutions, and media. Telkomsel, as a state-owned enterprise, will play a vital role in addressing the challenges faced by creative economy players and strengthening the ecosystem where challenges persist," said Minister of Creative Economy Riefky.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, stated that one of the ministry's objectives is to monitor the contribution of the creative economy—an emerging sector—to the national economy. According to Irene, this is crucial to support the creative economy as a new growth engine for Indonesia.

"Our main mission is to present real-time data on how much the creative economy contributes to the national economy. It cannot be denied that the creative economy is still considered a new sector, and many are unaware of its potential," explained Irene.

She also highlighted potential further collaborations with Telkomsel to support communities embracing live streaming as a new income source—an area demonstrating positive growth and significant impact on the creative economy.

"For future collaborations, apart from data, the growth of gamers and streamers has shown promising numbers. We have Indonesia Game Week planned for this year. Additionally, initiatives like Emak-emak Matic (Tech-Savvy Mothers) can be promoted as affiliate marketers. Hopefully, this can progress in tandem with Telkomsel, allowing for joint monitoring and development," Irene concluded.

Telkomsel welcomed the opportunity for collaboration, aligning with its vision to foster the creative economy ecosystem in Indonesia, particularly in the realm of digitalization.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Telkomsel to enhance its ecosystem. We can no longer rely solely on basic connectivity. Our strategy is to build and expand the ecosystem, and one potential area is through collaboration with Kemenekraf," said Nugroho, President Director of Telkomsel.

"We need to gather the necessary data to monitor and protect creative workers, as discussed earlier. We aim to provide a system that ensures their protection. Therefore, we need close collaboration with Kemenekraf. Our visions align. We’ve taken note of the ideas presented, and we're ready to support them. I am confident that we can establish a strong partnership," Nugroho added.

The potential scope of collaboration between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Telkomsel includes data and information exchange—particularly real-time data, joint promotions through digital platforms, co-branding, and product promotion or commercialization activities both online and offline. Telkomsel also offers digital solutions to transform the creative economy, such as providing digital platforms to showcase creative identities, Mobile Data APIs for in-depth engagement analysis, mobile applications, and digital advertising services.

In the near term, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Creative Economy and Telkomsel is expected to be signed to serve as the foundation for future collaboration. The MoU and subsequent agreements or activities are anticipated to be implemented promptly.

The meeting was attended by Ari Sondang Widyanto Sibarani, Vice President of Network Digitalization and Security at Telkomsel, and Bowon Baskoro, GM of Network Service Innovation.

Accompanying the Minister were Cecep Rukendi, Deputy of Strategic Development; Radi Manggala, Director for Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations; and Dian Permanasari, Expert Staff for Research, Education, and Institutional Relations.
