Jakarta, June 12, 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar welcomed a visit from the Motion Picture Association (MPA) Asia Pacific to explore potential strategic collaboration in the film industry. The meeting focuses on key issues, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), enhancing industry competitiveness, and strengthening copyright regulations in the digital era.

"We believe the film sector contributes significantly to the national economy, including the creation of high-quality jobs through a strong multiplier effect. We also see the film industry as a new engine of growth in driving the transformation of the creative economy toward our grand vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 (Golden Generation of Indonesia in 2045)," said Deputy Minister Irene during the meeting, held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on June 12, 2025.
MPA Asia Pacific is a global association representing major international entertainment studios. The organization actively collaborates with governments and creative industry stakeholders across Asia to support the growth of the film and entertainment sectors.
Deputy Minister Irene also emphasized the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence productively and ethically within the film industry. She noted that cross-border collaboration is essential to addressing the challenges of the digital era, enabling Indonesia to tap into global knowledge and experience to strengthen its national creative ecosystem.
"AI is not merely a supporting tool, but a creative partner that can boost efficiency and improve competitiveness. The government is ready to collaborate to ensure this technology is used positively to support the creative economy," Deputy Minister Irene added.
Several potential areas of collaboration were identified during the discussion, including the formulation of policies that support local content and artists, joint development programs between MPA member studios and the Indonesian film industry, enhanced market access, regulatory dialogue, and cross-border content exchange.
"This meeting marks an important first step in building a long-term partnership between the Ministry and MPA to advance Indonesia’s creative industry," said Deputy Minister Irene.

Meanwhile, MPA Asia Pacific President and Managing Director Mila Venugopalan expressed keen interest in strengthening Indonesia’s creative sector through constructive collaboration. She recognized Indonesia’s vast creative potential and highlighted the increasingly vital role of AI in film production, as well as the need to update copyright regulations to keep pace with technological developments.
"We believe that the creative industry holds great potential to become a key driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Indonesia," said Mila.
