Jakarta, 3 March, 2026 – The Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received an audience with the Indonesian Furniture Designers Association (HDMI) to discuss the potential for strengthening the creative economy ecosystem, particularly the furniture industry. The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and associations in accelerating talent development, enhancing design competitiveness, and increasing the added value of national furniture products based on intellectual property.
The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received the Indonesian Furniture Designers Association (HDMI) at the Office of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/3/2026).
“Associations such as HDMI play a crucial role in helping us curate creative talents who are ready to be accelerated. Associations are the ones who best understand the challenges and where the potential lies,” said the Minister of Creative Economy at the Office of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/3).
HDMI is a professional organization that brings together furniture designers from various regions across Indonesia. Established on October 28, 2010 at Paramadina University, HDMI currently has approximately 200 members spread across several provinces. Within the creative industry ecosystem, HDMI serves as a strategic partner of the government, collaborates with job training institutions, and acts as a reference and partner for Professional Certification Bodies (LSP) in strengthening standards and competencies of national furniture designers.
One of HDMI’s key focuses this year is to encourage increased added value of furniture products through intellectual property management. In line with this, the Ministry of Creative Economy is strengthening intellectual property-based financing schemes to ensure that creative industry players, including furniture designers, have more inclusive access to financing.
“In Indonesia, we have so far only had Business Appraisal and Property Appraisal. Recently, we inaugurated 64 IP Evaluators or IP Appraisers who were trained by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). These 64 individuals will become banking partners for Intellectual Property-based People’s Business Credit (KUR). This means we are building the ecosystem, particularly in terms of financing,” explained Teuku Riefky.

Meanwhile, HDMI Advisory Board Member R.M. Satya Brahmantya emphasized Indonesia’s comparative advantage in terms of natural resources as a strong foundation for the furniture design industry.
“Designers in Indonesia actually have a privilege because our natural resources for raw materials are excellent, such as teak wood, rattan, and bamboo, with thousands of species and varieties spread across different regions. We need to compete in terms of added value, materials, skills, character, and storytelling,” said Brahm.
On the same occasion, Deputy for Creativity in Culture and Design, Yuke Sri Rahayu, added that the furniture subsector has a strong industrial foundation and holds the potential to be included in the Ministry’s acceleration program scheme.
“This is interesting because furniture is also part of the craft subsector and already has a strong industrial foundation. Perhaps in the future, furniture can be included in a category within our acceleration program,” said Yuke.

The synergy between the Ministry of Creative Economy and HDMI is expected to strengthen the position of Indonesian furniture designers not merely as producers based on natural resources, but as creators with high added value who are capable of competing in the global market.
Also present at the audience were the Chairperson of the Indonesian Furniture Designers Association, Bintang Maulana Zakariya; Advisory Board Members R.M. Satya Brahmantya, Ira Samri, and Ade Fajarwati; as well as Public Relations representative Rizal Fauzan.
Meanwhile, accompanying the Minister of Creative Economy was the Director of Architecture and Design, Sabar Norma Megawati Panjaitan.
