Ministry of Creative Economy Holds Independence Day Competitions at 10 Locations, Celebrate National Independence Together

Jakarta, 14 August 2025 – The Ministry of Creative Economy enlivened the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (HUT ke-80 RI) by organizing Independence Day competitions (Lomba 17-an) at ten strategic locations across Jakarta. Minister of Creative Economy (Minister of Ekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya invited all Indonesians to participate with high spirits of creativity.

“Together, let us enliven the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia with creativity, celebrate through collaboration, foster innovation, and make this independence celebration a moment for unity, sovereignty, and the welfare of the people towards an advanced Indonesia,” stated Minister Teuku Riefky.

This series of events is part of the independence celebrations, presenting traditional games with a creative twist while actively inviting public participation. The ten competition locations are spread across public spaces and bustling areas, namely:

  1. National Museum

  2. National Gallery

  3. Sari Pacific Jakarta

  4. Thamrin 10

  5. Sarinah Thamrin

  6. Plaza Indonesia

  7. Thamrin 9

  8. Chillax Sudirman

  9. World Trade Center Jakarta, and

  10. Lippo Mall Nusantara

All activities will be held on 17 August 2025 from 12.00 WIB to 18.00 WIB. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy (Deputy Minister of Ekraf) Irene Umar encouraged the public to join with family and friends to enliven the event.

“Remember, don’t come alone. Invite your friends and loved ones. On 17 August, there will be special surprises at Monas, Semanggi, and various other locations. Let’s celebrate together,” said Deputy Minister Irene.

Each participant will receive a stamp rally passport as proof of participation, which will be filled with 10 local Intellectual Property (IP) stickers at each game. After completing all ten games across the locations, participants will have the chance to win attractive prizes.

The competitions are designed with symbolic meanings connected to national development programs, as follows:

  1. The bracelet relay at the National Museum symbolizes the spirit of cooperative mutual cooperation.

  2. Sack race at the National Gallery encourages maintaining health.

  3. Pencil-in-the-bottle challenge at Thamrin 10 represents targeting the goals of subsidized housing programs.

  4. Giant cracker-eating competition at Sari Pacific symbolizes pride in local food.

  5. Ball removal from boxes at Sarinah represents energy self-sufficiency.

  6. Group clogs race at Plaza Indonesia symbolizes togetherness in cooperatives.

  7. Ball-viewing through paper funnels at Thamrin 9 emphasizes the importance of health checks.

  8. National knowledge quiz at Chillax Sudirman encourages youth to love the homeland.

  9. Chopstick challenge at WTC Jakarta reminds participants of cooperative values.

  10. Independence Harvest at Lippo Mall Nusantara with hanging vegetable baskets symbolizes free nutritious food programs.

These games are designed to create joy while instilling values of togetherness, independence, and the spirit of nation-building. Through these activities, the Ministry of Creative Economy underscores that independence celebrations are not merely ceremonial, but a moment to strengthen national identity through creativity and public participation.

With a spirit of equitable development and tangible independence, the competitions are expected to strengthen unity while expanding the role of the creative economy in society.
