This year’s festival, themed “Empathetic Resilience,” aims to transform design creativity into a new engine of economic growth while strengthening Indonesia’s design ecosystem in line with the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
Deputi Bidang Kreativitas Budaya dan Desain Yuke Sri Rahayu, resmi membuka Ekraf Design Festival (EDF) 2025 yang berlangsung Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, Selasa (2/12/2025).
“EDF 2025 serves as a platform to enhance the capacity of young designers, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and generate design works that create economic, social, and cultural impact. This festival is a strategic pilot project that marks the Ministry of Creative Economy’s commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s design ecosystem,” stated Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya.
EDF 2025 adopts the theme “Empathetic Resilience” to highlight the crucial role of the design subsector within the creative economy ecosystem. Design is no longer viewed merely as physical aesthetics, but as a catalyst for innovation and value creation.
Deputy for Cultural and Design Creativity, Yuke Sri Rahayu, expressed hope that EDF will make a tangible contribution to job creation and national economic growth, becoming a new engine of growth aligned with the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
“The EDF 2025 is part of the Government’s planning and modeling efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s design ecosystem through the promotion and commercialization of intellectual property (IP), as well as development programs for architects, interior designers, product designers, and visual communication designers to share ideas, synergize, and create collaborative opportunities,” said Deputy Yuke.

In her report, the Director of Architecture and Design of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Sabar Norma Megawati Panjaitan, explained that the EDF 2025 series began with an Open Call that attracted 97 applicants, resulting in 20 selected Young Designers who underwent an intensive incubation program from 14–17 November 2025. “This is a form of scenario planning for government support toward strengthening the national design ecosystem through cross-subsector collaboration,” Megawati noted.
One of the selected designers from Studio A shared the innovation and social value of the architectural work featured at EDF 2025. “The concept we bring to EDF 2025 focuses on how to utilize household items so they don’t end up as waste,” said Almas Ratna Salsabila, one of the selected EDF 2025 designers.
EDF 2025 is held from 2–4 December 2025 and features three main programs: the exhibition, Design x Ekraf (DxE) Talks, and the Ekraf Design Awards.
The success of EDF 2025 is supported by strong collaboration between the Government and five major professional design associations in Indonesia: IAI (Indonesian Institute of Architects), HDII (Indonesian Society of Interior Designers), ADGI (Association of Indonesian Graphic Designers), AIDIA (Association of Indonesian Visual Communication Designers), and ADPII (Indonesian Industrial Product Designers Alliance).
