Ministry of Creative Economy Hosts KaTa Kreatif 2025, Recognizes Six Regencies/Cities Supporting Regional Creative Ecosystems

Jakarta, December 19, 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency has designated six regencies and cities as recipients of the 2025 KaTa (Creative Regency/City) program. These regions were recognized for their success in fostering creative innovation and building strong commitments among stakeholders to develop local creative economy ecosystems. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya expressed appreciation for the dedication and strategic efforts undertaken by local governments, creative communities, and the broader public in advancing creative economy development in their respective regions

“In realizing this commitment, the Ministry of Creative Economy continues to promote the Creative Regency/City (KaTa Kreatif) Development Program as a frontline initiative for building creative economy ecosystems starting from the regional level. Since its launch in 2016, a total of 86 regencies and cities have identified their leading creative subsectors through the Independent Assessment of Creative Regencies/Cities of Indonesia (PMK3I),” said Minister Teuku Riefky during the KaTa Kreatif 2025 designation ceremony at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, on Friday, December 19, 2025.

The Minister further emphasized that the KaTa Kreatif 2025 designation is expected to strengthen hexahelix collaboration and accelerate the development of strategic creative economy subsectors, serving as a new engine of economic growth rooted in regional potential.

“We extend our congratulations to the six creative regencies and cities that have demonstrated strong commitment to developing creative ecosystems at both local and national levels. This achievement is the result of close collaboration among government, communities, academics, creative practitioners, and other stakeholders working together to generate tangible benefits from creativity for regional development and community welfare,” the Minister stated while presenting awards to the selected Creative Regencies/Cities.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy, Cecep Rukendi, reported that the KaTa Kreatif assessment process began in October 2025 and was structured into three activity clusters: PMK3I, the KaTa Kreatif designation, and the International City Networking Development Program under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN). The second cluster played a critical role in ensuring that all participating regions shared a common understanding of the selection process, assessment parameters, and the substance of presentations and city profile videos prepared by each region.

“Through the KaTa Kreatif Indonesia Program, the Ministry of Creative Economy not only provides recognition but also encourages the emergence of regional role models capable of developing leading creative subsectors in a structured, sustainable manner with tangible economic impact,” said Deputy Cecep.

The designation of KaTa Kreatif Indonesia 2025 represents a concrete step by the government in recognizing regions with strong commitments to advancing the national creative economy. The six Creative Regencies/Cities for 2025 are:

  1. Banjarmasin City (leading subsector: crafts)

  2. Central Buton Regency (leading subsector: crafts)

  3. Cilacap Regency (leading subsector: film, animation, and video)

  4. Manado City (leading subsector: music)

  5. Pati Regency (leading subsector: performing arts)

  6. Trenggalek Regency (leading subsector: performing arts)

“Manado would not be alive nor dynamic without music. We are grateful for the many choirs that have become a mainstay in creating creative events, especially in the music sector, which also absorbs significant labor. We appreciate this recognition that designates music as our leading subsector, supported by a strong ecosystem rooted in local culture, particularly choral traditions, traditional musical instruments, and the growth of modern music,” said Manado Deputy Mayor Richard Sualang.
