Jakarta, 17 August 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar led the “Bersih Merdeka” cleanup movement together with content creator Jerhemy Owen. The cleanup route stretched from Thamrin Nine to Sari Pacific, Jakarta, involving dozens of volunteers from various age groups.
Kementerian Ekraf mengajak masyarakat menjaga kebersihan lewat aksi ‘Bersih Merdeka’ sebagai dampak nyata kesadaran publik, Jakarta, Minggu (17/08/2025).
“A free nation must also be a clean nation. I am very proud to see many young people step onto the streets, setting an example that Indonesia can be clean, healthy, and prosperous,” said Deputy Minister Irene on Sunday, 17 August 2025.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is closely related to public health. She also reminded that loving oneself is the foundation of loving others and the nation. The “Bersih Merdeka” initiative is aligned with the spirit of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

“When our bodies are healthy, our minds and hearts are also happy. Good health starts from simple actions, such as keeping our surroundings clean,” she added.
Jerhemy Owen, who is now actively advocating for environmental awareness and sustainable travel, stated that collaboration between the younger generation and the government, especially the Ministry of Creative Economy, can create real impact in shaping public awareness while strengthening the role of the creative economy in the environmental sector.
“It is an honor to join this cleanup activity with Mrs. Irene. Her dedication is remarkable; she has even taken part in underwater cleanup dives. I hope initiatives like this will continue with even greater participation,” he said.

The event also featured works from IMPAX in collaboration with Franziska Fennert. The collected plastic bottles will later be recycled into trophies or plaques that will be presented to the Ministry of Creative Economy.
The Ministry of Creative Economy emphasized that “Bersih Merdeka” invites the public to take an active role, and the program is expected to grow into a collective movement for keeping the environment clean.
