Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, menyaksikan penandatanganan peluncuran dan hibah robot gamelan (E-Gamelan) oleh Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) di Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, Minggu (21/12/2025).
“The integration of technology and tradition demonstrates how creativity can serve as a bridge between cultural preservation and economic development. Gamelan is not merely a heritage, but an Indonesian identity with the potential to continuously evolve and reach global audiences,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar at the event held at TMII, East Jakarta, on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
The activity, involving InJourney Destination Management and networks of creative economy communities, reflects cross-sector collaboration between government, destination managers, academia, and creative communities in delivering cultural experiences that are relevant to contemporary dynamics and oriented toward long-term sustainability. Deputy Minister Irene emphasized that culture-based innovation is a fundamental pillar in the development of the creative economy.

Acting President Director of TMII Ratri Paramita noted that the presence of the gamelan robot aligns with TMII’s transformation into an educational and cultural recreation space that adapts to technological advancements while preserving traditional values.

The gamelan robot, or E-Gamelan, is an innovation developed by Dian Nuswantoro University that utilizes artificial intelligence technology to automatically play gamelan instruments. This innovation is expected to function as an educational medium, a performance platform, and a showcase of the nation’s creativity in packaging culture in an adaptive and sustainable manner. Through this collaboration, the Ministry of Creative Economy encourages the utilization of strategic public spaces such as TMII as venues for promoting national creativity, while reinforcing culture as Indonesia’s unique selling point at the global level.
