Banda Aceh, 25 November 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is strengthening Aceh’s film ecosystem through the Alternative Cinema and Aceh Film Workshop programs. These initiatives are designed to provide the public with access to film appreciation while equipping local filmmakers with production and distribution strategies to ensure their works can compete in national and global markets.
Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, memberi sambutan pada acara Workshop Optimalisasi Akses Pasar dengan tema “Narasi Lokal Menembus Bioskop dan Platform Global” yang berlangsung di Hermes Palace Hotel, Aceh, Selasa (25/11/2025).
“We want to ensure that Aceh filmmakers have equal access to both audiences and markets. Through alternative cinema and this workshop, local talent is encouraged to understand the industry value chain—from production to distribution—so that their works are sustainable and competitive,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya.
The Alternative Cinema, titled Sinema Rakyat Aceh, was held at the Banda Aceh Cultural Park, featuring theater-style screening rooms with gender-separated seating. The program screened films previously and currently showing in national cinemas, including works by local communities, with a capacity of up to 400 viewers per session.

Minister Riefky expressed confidence that Aceh, through these activities, can produce cinematic works that are both culturally relevant and industrially competitive, in line with strengthening the creative economy as a new engine of national growth.

“Several alternatives were discussed, from stricter supervision, screening categories, to more curated spaces. Ultimately, what matters most is our shared readiness to maintain these entertainment spaces as safe, comfortable, and positively impactful,” she said.
